ipod being taken over by phones with memory cards?

Since technology is getting better, and we are starting to get higher storage on memory cards, do you think it will ever phase out ipods completely? My ipod died around a year ago, and i keep meaning to get one, however having a phone and a 16gb memory card inside it, i have never seen the need to get another ipod, even though ipods are amazing! Or are they? They play your music and can be used as an external hdd. A phone however obviously does what an ipod can do, but with the added advantage of being a.. phone! So does the ipod still have a use? And would you ever start using your phone as your mp3 player too?

I never want to listen to music through my phone (unless it is the iPhone). I have tried this in the past in an effort to consolidate my gadget inventory, but I have found nothing that satisfy my needs. Also, my providers music service is something I wish not to subscribe to in order to listen to music. I have tried the iPhone, and loved how it does everything so well. I only wish for three things: My carrier to receive it (Verizon), larger storage capacity, and to make it cost effective). Right now I have an 80gig classic iPod, and I don't see any memory cards with that kind of capcity coming out soon.

I do have a few songs on my ipod touch, but just a very few, as I have a cell phone that takes a memory card, and I use it once In awhile to listen to music. The phone isn't acitated, so that is all I use it for. It is my previous phone before the one I have now. i don't have any music on music on my ne phone at all, since I have the other one to play music on. I use my opod more for the apps than the muic anyway. Take care, and happy mylotting.
