Has anyone ever had a fire in their house?

Today, my parents and I came home from visiting my sister. My dad turned on a lamp in the family room and it made a loud noise. Afterwards, the whole room smelled like smoke. It was only the light bulb shorting out, but what if it had caused a fire? I think that would have been very scary.
My mom was pointing out that sometime we leave that lamp on for our dog and thought we should stop doing that now.
So, my question to you MyLotters is: Have you ever had a fire in your house? How big was it? How much damage did it do? Did your habits change after that fire?

My son put a cloth on my cooker once whilst the cooker ring was on and i was outside.All i heard was a scream as i saw flames on the cooker.I now ensure that i am all ways in the kitchen and try not to come out of the kitchen when i am cooking with the children at home.Happy Mylotting.

Good thing it did not go big for that will really bring trouble to all of you. I guess, you need to have your line be checked to be sure.
Luckily, we did not experience that in our house and hopefully never. Have watched a lot of that kind of problem and it's really hard in their part to lost a house. They say, that it's better to have stolen than a fire in the house. But for me, neither of those are not good. Carefulllllllll than sorry...

I dont have any fire experience in my home but once i had in my garden. The garden has dry leaves and the fire spread to a great extend and then some near by people helped me to stop the fire.

That's great you had help to stop the fire! I'm sure it would have been hard to stop it all by yourself.

Yeah, i have twice experience of had a fire in my house. Two times also caused of the same plug which used to boil the water frequently. I guess it is due the electricity wyer is too old. Luckily, it didn't brought me any damage except to change the plug only.
