the last time i used floppy was about 10 years ago! its funny that still today, some pc's come with the floppy, at first i thought its because of windows boot or something, but you can do that from a usb pen drive. I dont see any use what so ever for a floppy anymore, unless ur ultra nerdy geek who doesnt want to move on in time!

The time that you refer to, 10 years ago, Windows booting was usually done via a floppy disk. It ws much more practical running FDISK from a floppy to partition and format a drive than simply booting off a CD.
I still have a floppy drive, and even own a spare in case the drive fails at some time. Even with the advent of USB pendrives, a floppy still has it's uses such as reflashing the BIOS or running an unattended install etcetera.
To be fair, I probably do qualify as an old fashioned geek in many ways.

I don't use floppies these days. I used some about two years ago and can't use them anymore. There some out there who cannot afford the memory sticks and they still go for floppies. After all, why do some computer manufacturers still include floppy drives? They still work.

i use a usb but at uni in the chemistry labs they still use very old computers which can only accept floppy disk and its so annoying because the amount of data we need to transfer onto the disk is more than the disk can handle so we have to make several trips from the chemistry computers to another computer. But they won't update the computers because there is nothing wrong with them and i agree with that in a way because it would be a waste of money if they work

i think in todays world not much people use floppy disks, 1.44MB sounds very less.
many people around me use flash drives, microSD cards, Rewritable CDs.
but i think the best way is to use a portable USB hard disk which have capacity upto 500GB, and it can be carried around anywhere.
you just need to plug it in the UBS port of computer and its ready to use.

I have graduated last 2006 yet I rarely see them when I was still in college. Flash disks were most widely used then before any other storage devices. Floppy disks are a lot expensive than that of sticks and DVDs so I don't really know if there are even laptops or PCs which has floppy drive as well.

Yes, I still use a floppy disk for certain purposes. I noticed the gradual demise of floppies around 10 years ago, when CD writers first appeared on the scene. Nevertheless, a floppy disk still has it,s uses, depending on your level of use of a computer.
A few examples would be an unattended installation disk, a bios backup disk or a basic DOS boot disk.

It is a few years that I have not used floppy disk. I use unistick instead. I think that it is much more convenient to use unisticks. But I still keep my floppy disks in my drawer.

I used to use floppy disk in my old pc(pentium II) but it was around 4 years ago.even though my current pc supports floppy drives i haven't connected any as its of no use and if i connect it would be waste of power..
But i wont throw those floppy drives and disks as its kinda going to be relic

No I don't use Floppy disk anymore and I don't see anyone using it now. Not even rewritable disk. CD and DVD now is just like a Floppy. They prefer to use flash drive or USB drive. Floppy disk, cd and dvd has less capacity than flash drive. The largest capacity of flash drive is 64gb. Take not of that, so many movies can store.

I don't think so. Now we are not able to find the floppy drives in the new computers and most of the younger generation may not know about the floppies. This is one of the things which vanished within a short period due to the development of products of its same kind like pager.

Hi pratheep87, my old computer had a floopy drive and a cd drive. I bought a box of floppys it when I first got it in 2004. but by then they were being phased out. I now only use cd's for my newer laptop. the origail box of floopy i have are of no use to me and I am not sure what I will do with them. as far as I can tell here in the U.S. floppy are no longer being sold.

smaller but capacity is increasing

Ya, I do have the floppy with small size. You know first time I have a computer, it full with big tools. And, computer still use for monochrome color then I like to play DOS games. My disc is older, and a lot of dust then I throw away. I use flash disk for keep my data.

I can't remember the last time I used it. In fact, I think it's more than 10 years. The computer that I am using now didn't have floppy disk in it. I asked the seller to remove it. I think it's a waste of space since I no longer use it. Still, if I removed the battery to reset the CPU, I need to set the Floppy Disk to none. I think it's set to accept Floppy Disk as default drive apart from Hard Disk and CDROM/DVDROM.
