Cold chocolate makes you HOT

Earlier today, purely in the interests of science and on your behalf; I tested the thermodynamics of chocolate as a catalyst for perspiration. I selected a bar from Mars, fresh from the fridge, and slowly walked up the garden eating it. I realise that you would not regard my only half eating the chocolate as conclusive, so I ate every single piece. What I discovered is that eating a regular size bar that weighs in at 58gm (2oz) consumed at a moderate pace up a 100 foot path in a constant 27 degree heat (80 f) results in a fine sweat being built up by the person doing the eating. Therefore it is quite clear that cold chocolate makes you warm. What remarkable scientific facts have you discovered today?

I haven't had a Mars Bar in awhile..but I am thinking that anything cold may make your body heat up while it is metabolizing the cold chocolate..or so I would think..just like taking col or cold showers on a hot day..you end up sweating more actually while your body fights it's way back up to it's normals temperature..What scientific facts have I discovered today? That it is hard to keep a growing kid filled up..lol Little sis stayed the night last night and she hollers she is hungry every 45 minutes she does this on occasion like she can't get enough..doctors calls it growth spurts..

Now you have to redo the experiment without eating the chocolate to see if you still sweat. Unfortunately you are probably going to have to wait until next year for another day to reach 80 degrees. :p

Maybe I could try it in reverse Cyn. I'll wait for a cold day and see if hot chocolate cools me down?

Well, I did a rough calculation using the Guggenheim Algorithm to determine the validity of your claim Mr Pike, and the conclusive result I arrived at was that you definitely need a hobby! Have you considered bonsai? LMAO. Funnily enough, I DID make a significant discovery today! I discovered that my fitness levels are utter shite when I ran up 5 flights of stairs due to the lift being broken. It was ALMOST a eureka moment I must say, but I did manage to contain myself seeing as I was on the verge of having heart palpitations.

The Back Passage??? Well done, I see you've moved on up in the world! I'll be running a few more tests over the weekend too. These ones will involve an empty stomach and a food court followed by grocery shopping. The following week I'll reverse the approach. I want to determine once and for all how eating prior to food shopping influences the "Buying Crap Factor".

Bonsai? You mean wrap an image of the rising sun round my head and fly parachuteless......... or is that Banzai? I think that you will find that riding the lift rarely causes the same degree of breathlessness as running up the stairs. Proving conclusively that lifts keep you fitter than stair running. I missed your very valid reference to the Guggenheim Algorithm. I feel that the exercise met both Modern and contemporary requirements with a post-impressionist outcome that demonstrated the very real sense of stress caused by exposure to some of the finest alchemy this side of Cadbury's.

I have not discovered any remarkable scientific facts ever. You have shared the most interesting remarkable scientific fact that I have ever been witness to, here, by this discussion.

You mean that you didn't know that Gatorade is a US equivalent of the St Bernard dog that carried a barrel of whisky round it's neck to revive injured climbers. Alligators have a barrel of Gatorade round their necks and they go to help swimmers in trouble. Mostly they get into trouble just as soon as they see the Gator!

Hi P1key! The scientific discovery that I made today didn't happen until I read your discussion and in reading it I discovered that when a man eats a cold Mars chocolate bar his daily calorie intake is much more because of all of the sugar! So! Said man is now going to have to exercise twice as hard to get all of those extra calories off thus causing him to sweat more and make him hotter than the cold Mars bar ever could! If I were you P1key the next time I was going to try to give myself to science for the betterment of mankind such as you did today, I would try to think of all of the extra consequences that I may have to face all in the name of science!!

Oh P1key! There is no reason to feel like a "real physical jerk"!!! It is Not the end of the World that you are weak...it happens to the best of us!! Of course that does depend on the type of weakness we are talking about though!! As a matter of fact P1key I do I have an Excellent exercise regime that I would advise you to start! If you are interested I would be happy to take control of you for your exercise regime...you may find it a little hard at first as it has been compared to worse than the Marine Corps Boot Camp but I am sure I can get you whipped into shape in no time at all!

I've hardly had time for discovering any remarkable scientific facts...unless you consider measuring the angle and the speed at which clay dough needs to be thrown to reach the part of the wall that Mommy and Mrs. Viswan can't reach! At the moment, I'm also trying to discover the speed with which I need to react to get hold of brats trying to spurt through a gap in doors to sit down and concentrate on work. Well, I haven't made any great discoveries on that front yet....guess, I need to be a better teacher....who spends my time constructively calculating the speed and angle of projection and blah blah instead of mylotting! I'll probably need to ask James for help in this matter since he's into all those scientific journals right now and doing a bit of experimenting himself!

That was a remarkably thorough and scientific investigation, P1key, and I wish I'd thought of it myself. Maybe I can carry it out in order to compare the results from the other side of the world. Mind you, we only have 10 degrees at present, and the fridge is bereft of Mars Bars. I have some chocolate buttons, but that wouldn't be right. I need warming up though, so I'll defer to your experimental results and trust in the power of noshing the entire packet of buttons in order to not have to light the fire this morning. Bonus!

As we speak, I have covered myself in melted chocolate and am waiting to warm up. If it doesn't happen soon, the postman will arrive and be met at the door by something which resembles a mud-wrestling gargantua. You'll hear the screams or horror from there ...

Hey p1key!~ I'm not quite sure that I understand this scientific bit of testing that you did! You ate a chocolate bar while walking outside in 80 degree temps and you started to sweat? Is eating chocolate supposed to make you sweat or get warm? I didn't know that! Now I will have to conduct my own test! But, It is already hot in my apartment and I am already sweating so I don't know if eating chocolate is fair at this particular time! I would need to cool off first! It is 80 degrees outside which means I would probably be cooler if I went outdoors first! But, then I couldn't mylot! So I will have to have my dinner and conduct my chocolate test at a later time! I will get back to you with my results and we can compare!

P1key- Well, if it wasn't the 100 foot path in 80 degree weather that did it to you, I would assume that the sugar raised your blood pressure, which led to the raising of the blood temperature, which made you feel warm. Of course, I'm not a doctor or a scientist and this just one small hypothesis. I'm glad you enjoyed the Mars though, they are one of my favorite choccys. Namaste-Anora

I forgot to speak about my own experiments, lol. I suppose I like seeing how spicy I can make a dish before my hubby can no longer eat it, the problem with this one is, it backfires and now our son is into spicy food! Me, I'm still a dainty one who cannot handle too much spice. I do love doing experiments with the kids though. Did you do the baking soda when with your children when they were younger? Mine love it, and if you add a bit of food coloring, it's the best. Then there is taking copper wire and oranges. Very cool experiment! Namaste-Anora

Today I discovered that chocolate makes my migranes go away. Chocolate is amazing, and yummy. Maybe its the pleasure I get from chocolate that makes me relax enough to relieve tention....hmm I must keep working on my discovery. Wish me luck.

Hi p1key, Now that is the thing that I wouldn't do as I don't like chocolate that much and not a one straight from the fridge, too cold and hard for me, but I can just picture doing that and getting all sweaty in this heat, take it easy, I have a fan here and my cat just sits in fron of it, poor thing, no I haven't found scientific facts about anything at the moment, its too hat to think or do anything. hugs.
