I just read this blog post from a female blogger that I really like, and I was frankly appalled. I did not think I would ever see such nonsense in the world of Geekdom.
Apparently, the LA Times thinks that the only reason any girl would go to the San Diego Comic Con would be to ogle Jake Gyllenhaal or meet the cast of Twilight. What? Does the world really think girls are incapable of any thoughts other than "Oooo, that guy is HAWT"? I mean, really. This seriously makes me angry.
I will admit that geeky girls are somewhat rare, as any guy will probably tell you with a very sad expression on his face, but to stereotype all girls in such a blatant fashion is really very stupid. I mean, they even go so far as to say that girls will be rushing to "do laundry on Jake Gyllenhaal's washboard abs". Seriously? Do laundry?
Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it to ComicCon this year, but I have plans to go next year. And it will not be to see Brad Pitt or Robert Pattinson or Jake Gyllenhaal. It will be because I love scifi, Joss Whedon, video games, and reading books and comics.
What about you? Any other geeky girls out there who are offended by this blatant display of sexism?

Man, this is almost as bad as saying a woman's place is in the kitchen! I'm offended by this, and I'm a guy!

That isn't the only thing, either, it happens in the world of Rock/Metal/Punk as well! It's amazing that people think the only women who listen to the stuff are the type of women who just want to become roadies and sleep with some hunky rock star! So yeah, it's not just geek girls who get the shaft, but rock girls as well! And that's probably not even the extent of it either, something else is probably bound to pop up somewhere... I mean, sexism is a pretty bad problem in the U.S....
