Well I just brought this Plant, It is a Rubber Tree, if you have one can you ytell mr how to care for it? I notice that it keep losing leaves, I believe I need to put it in a bigger Pot, because the roots seems to be growing over the dirt, I know a little bit about Plants I use to read up on them 20 yrs, ago.I was also a person that went around to Office and doctors office to Water Plants, I notice this rubber Tree has spots in it, dark brown spots, I hope it doesn't have some kind of disease? If someone can tell me how to care for the Plant I will keep it, I have had it for a month. and leave keep falling off of it, I think it is a sick Plant. What do you think I know that you shouldn't water them a lot. So What do you think? Do you have one of those Plants, only answer if you can tell me about the plant. or if you ever had one, I just need info. Thanks alot in advance, I was thinking about taking the plant back to the store and get another Plant, I am sure they will replace it. I don't have the recipt, But Maybe I WILL TAKE IT BACK IF i CAN'T GET ANSWERS.

I have a ton of gardening books, so I hunted it up about it's care and all that. Watering: do NOT overwater. Too much makes it rot and lose leaves. (I have a simalar plant, and I only water it a little bit every couple of weeks in the winter, and once a week a little bit in the summer months... otherwise it drops it's fleshy leaves like crazy. I almost killed mine from overwatering!) Sunlight: keep it out of direct sunlight. "The rubber tree can successfully survive without light, and it's one of it's charms" Sunlight will scorch the leaves. (If it is getting too much sunlight, that might explain the black spots? Otherwise, it might be a fungus) If you summer it outside, it has to be in shade all of the time. To encourage new growth, cut a few inches off the top of the plant just above a leaf joint (once a year.) That encourages new leaves and growth and keeps it from getting spindly. Bugs: Mealy bugs and 'scale' like to nest in rubber trees. Keep the leaves and plant cleaned and it will keep the pests off. (I use a couple of dots of dish soap in water and a soft cotton rag to clean mine. It does seem to keep the bugs off.) Never put any kind of oil on the leaves (some people shine them with salad oil, etc), oiled leaves can't breathe even though they may look pretty lol. Repotting: If the roots are coming out over the pot, it probably does need repotting. Only go up one pot size. (Think of the pot as getting a child new shoes, you only go up a size at a time.) Good luck Marcy, hope this info helps some!

Joy that was very good information, I got it at HomeDepot, and I must of spend $15.00 on that Plant. I do have it in the Shade, I would not put it outside I know that t doesn't like a lot of sunlight. Maybe i was watering it to much, I was watering it once a week, maybe I should water it every two weeks, You think? have you ever heard of anybody shining the leaves with Milk? I have seen people do this, and it really makes the leaves shine. never heard of it with Salad Oil. I think I will repot it, But i see Brown Specs on it, and usually when you see this it has some kind of Defect. I forgot to mention that another baby plant is starting to grow. Tommorrow I have going to Home Depot, and I am going to fix up My neices yard. I am good when it comes to gardening I love it. Ok, Thanks. I will come back and let you know how that Plant is doing, after I do what you said, Thankd again!

I have heard of people shining the leaves with milk. I've read other gardening articles though that says the milk residue sticks too. I was just thinking too, if it was me, I'd repot into a clay pot. Those plastic pots don't let the soil dry out naturally like the clay ones do. I have all of my succulent type plants in clay. The plastic pots keep the roots wetter and the top would be bone dry...so I'd think they were dry and water them again, and I'd kill them from overwatering! The clay pots work better for me anyways.

I'm not the kind of guy who spends time for gardening but I do enjoy looking at people doing it. My mom loves gardening as well as my two older siblings and we also have a rubber tree. However it's planted at our backyard directly in the ground. It's my first time also to hear that milk is used in taking care of the plant's leaves. What my mom usually use was not milk but egg white. Unfortunately I don't know the reason why egg white is the one being used hehehe!

it seems that you do not have much of an idea on this plant. even if you get respones on it, i would suggest you to replace it with some other plant that you have knowledge on.

i would like to believe i do have a green thumb. i had tomato garden before and thinking of having it again some time. There is this sense of satisfaction to be able to raise plants and making them grow. I would like to be sorrounded with plants and trees and be with nature.
