Am I Depressed?

Have you ever asked yourself this question? Well I have. I feel so sad sometimes and as though my life is worthless. So I did some research on Depression. This is what I found: More than just a spell of melancholy blues clinical depression is a grave disturbance that often hinders a person from carrying out daily activities. However although depression sometimes has an obvious trigger, it often intrudes on a person's life without warning. Your life is suddenly darkened by a clowed of sadness for no apparent reason. Nobody you know has died, and nothing distressing has occured. Yet, you feel dejected and listless. And nothing will make the clowd go away. You are owerwelmed by feelings of despair, and you dont know why. Depression is nothing to be ashamed of. The Bible acknowledges that people can become dangerously low in spirit. For instance, the aspostle Paul's concern about one man was that he might be "swallowed up by his being overly sad (swallowed up in overwelming depression) (2 Corinthians 2:7)." Some depressed people become so distraught that they wish they could just fall asleep in death. Many feel as did Jonah the prophet: "My dayghter is doing better than my being alive" (Jonah 4:3). There five types of depression: 1. Major Depression: has symptoms that are severe enough to last six months or longer if untreated and that impact on most aspects of a sufferer's life. 2. Bipolar disorder: is also known as manic depression. Sufferers may experience emotional extremes that careen between prolonged episodes of intense hyperactivity (manias) and devasting lows (depressions). 3. Dysthymia: although not as disabling as major depression, has depressive symptoms that make it difficult for the patient to function normally. Some may also experience intermitent periods of major depression. 4. Postpartum depression: is a debilitating emotional condition that affects many mothers after they gave birth. 5. Seasonal affective disorder: likely occurs as a result of a lack of sunlight during autumn and winter. It usually clears up during spring and summer. There are a number of treatments for the depressed varying according to the symptoms and the severity of the illness. Many people may be helped by family physican, but some need more specialised treatment. The doctor might prescribe antidepresant medication or recommend some other form of assistance. Some have experienced good results with herbal medications, dietary adjustments, or a controlled exercise program. (Most of the information here came from the Awake 2009 Journal published by Jehovah's Witnesses)

If you look at the list of symptoms for depression, pretty much every one of us is suffering from SOME form of depression.

THAT IS SOOOOOO TRUE. So that is why depression is nothing to be ashamed of. We all may have went through it at some point. But we need to reconise that we are depresses to be able to take some form of action to help ourselves.

I have so many of the symptoms that I should probably be in a padded room somewhere curled up in the corner drooling or beating my head on the wall according to the doctors. LOL BUT, hey, what can a guy do except keep trying to work and provide for his family? Some of us don't have time to be depressed LOL

Wow it seems you have done your assignment on the topic. Well the best that could tell whether you are depressed or not is to consult a psychologist to test whether you are the clinical type of patient or just passing the normal kind of depression that most people do pass through in life. I think being aware that you might be depressed is something that is good since you still know that the thing is happening to you. I think those clinical kind of patients are unaware of what they are going through. so I suspect your kind of depression is the normal kind of depression that almost everyone experiences in life.

Yes I have done my research lol. I like the point that you made when you said that clinical king of patients are unaware of what they are going through. Most persons are depressed and dont know why they are. There are even persons who see others acting differently and they dont know what they are going through and may make things even more difficult for such one by teasing of making fun of them.
