Things you miss about being a child....

June 30, 2009 9:03am CST
I was thinking today about all the things I did as a kid that I never do any more. Things like... Making crappy soda stream drinks and drinking them even though they were awful! Birthday parties where you get spoilt rotten It being OK to put a blob of ice cream in a glass of coke Lying on the floor on your tummy to watch a film without your back or neck hurting!! What do you miss from the days of your youth?

I have to agree with you that our adulthood sometimes hinder us from doing child-like things. What I miss most was playing in the rain...it is very awkward and not fit to my profession to see a girl in her 20's bathing in the rain. It is not just right and it would be a huge scandal. I might be taken out of my profession for misconduct! . Sometimes, when it rains, even when I have umbrella, I won't open it just because I miss the touch of rain on my skin. Definitely I won't be able to play in the rain anymore so I have to be contented in the shower.

I thought that same thing earlier today when I got caught in the rain lol! I stayed out that bit longer than necessary and my kids were looking at me like I'd lost the plot!

I don't know - JUST DO IT!!!

I loved having no worries when I was a kid. I think that now being an adult and worrying about bills and such takes away from me having fun. I think if I could be a kid again I would want to be the age of say 12 years old. That is when I was smart but still incconent as well. Take care and happy mylotting to you.

Good age - I'd probably be 10 or 11. Being oblivious was bliss xx

Not having to work. Not having to work. Not having to work. Also being able to take off for long walks and nobody would look for me until dinner time. Being able to skate without falling down. Not being overweight. Not being in pain. Paper dolls. Arts and crafts. Everything except for the powerlessness of being a child...

Hm, Dad taking us out on Saturdays while Mom slept. Not working. Saturday morning cartoons. Not working. Mom playing piano (but that's more of a memory than a thing to do)...

Well, I only miss one thing from being a child. That is being care free. When I was a child, I did not think of anything. I just played all year round. No problems or what so ever. ALl things were taken care of by my parents. But now, I am the one taking care of my family. and I want my children experience the care free childhood life that they deserve.

well, i am quite lucky in the sense that i did all the things that a typical child did in our days. playing marbles, flying kites, stick hockey, etc. looking at the kids these days, they hardly play any outdoor games. either they are watching cartoons on television or on the computer surfing the net.

Being able to sleep as much as you want when you want would be my top thing. Then no bills. As a child you never think about bills. YOu do think about getting a job and having a home and family but bills is the last thing you think of growing up. Not worrying about the way you look. As a child I was rather small. I weighed around 70 just before puberty and always at 100 up until i got on birth control. So I never really worried about my looks and what I ate. NOw its if you eat to much chocolate its going to make you sick and your gain a pound or two. Got to go to the gym and work out that cake I ate after lunch. I am not to concious of my weight now but back when I was growing up it was far off my mind. I guess all the worries in life you get as an adult you dont get as a child and i miss that.

I miss not having any noticeable responsibility. It was grand. I don't remember anybody, you know, looking for me to live up to any huge expectations. I was not responsible for anything important as a kid. I just did the average kid type stuff. And no body had anything to say about it. Now though? Nah! I'm expected to actually do things in life. Not just every other week, or three days out of a seven day period. No no no. I have to do things, multiple things at that, on a daily basis. Looking back now, I don't think I appreciated my childhood as much as I should have. I slept a lot at one point. That was a big mistake. Wish I could get a mulligan on all those naps I took. I was a well rested chap up until the 9th grade. There weren't enough hours in the day in my high school years.

One of the thing that I miss from my childhood is to be able to climb to the top of the tree and enjoy the view below. That was so amazing. If I do that now, I'll be afraid to look down. I am afraid of height now (I wonder when that was develop...) and the top of the tree may not be able to hold my height. Growing up can bring some new things isn't it?

Yep, I'd be frightened of the tree breaking these days!!

I miss the most will be: Games - 'You're It', Marco Polo , Hide and Seek, Cooking show, Building Bed-sheet Camps, ect. Food - Mess food with hands, Blowing Bubbles in Soda with Straw, Playing with Ice Cubes, ect. I can keep the list going, but all we need now is to allocate some time!

Oh, I miss school days it was fun. We use to sit under the trees and have discusson among ourselves, play dandy shandy with the boys, play water war and just to name a few. We plan our little fun filled adventures, we go to the skating rink, go to the zoo, the movies and the pantomine. We have a whole lot of fun, it was exciting, we mix with the boys to go every where.Sometime we just sit and give jokes about one another. We even joke with the teahers, that's how wonderful it was.

A lot of things I miss during my childhood days such as :bathing in the rain with fellow children. To swim in the sea with my family on our old place before we move here in our present home. Those are memories that hard to forget.

There are many things i miss. I miss reading story books during vacations. Making beautiful scrap book at off time. I miss being on hill stations during summer vacation and so on. Mostly I miss being a child who used to think of no worries in life.

I miss the carefreeness. I always wanted to grow up, but now I wish I could grow down again! Too many bills, too much stress. It was nice just being able to relax and watch tv shows. I miss watching Barney with my aunt, who passed away this March. I miss not knowing that half of my family is stupid and thinking that everyone in my family is the greatest ever and not knowing any reason to believe otherwise. I think, perhaps, the thing I miss most about being a child was having faith in humanity. :) It was nice not understanding what people were doing wrong in the world.

Awe phyrre we sound very alike. Sorry about you losing your auntie, my auntie's rock. I used to sleep out every weekend and they would take me to the video shop and have movie marathons. Then Sunday afternoons would be spent watching things like Sheena or Magnum.lol

Hmm. I miss not having anything to do. Just sleeping, eating and playing. I miss those days when I wake up, eat my breakfast, and then play all day long. I miss having to go out of our house without thinking what am I wearing, is it too short? is it too tight? I just miss being that carefree and having no worries in the world.
