I'm at my wits end with my cat and I really need some advice on what I should do! We have 3 cats and only one is male. The one that is male started peeing in weird places a few years ago. We finally realized he had a UTI when he got blocked up and we spent A LOT of money at the vets office to get him unblocked. Since then he has to have a special food that he eats. For a 20 pound bag it costs $64. That is a lot of money to spend on a cat so in that in itself it makes me annoyed. After we had him unblocked and got the UTI to go away he stopped peeing on things for awhile. Then twice since then we had to get him more meds when he would pee on things since we knew when he did it that he was trying to tell us he had a UTI. The last time after treating him he never stopped peeing on things. He began to pee on the shower curtain if we didnt feed him at the EXACT same time every day. Then now even if we do feed him at the same time he has begun just to pee all over things all the time. I am tired of him ruining things and having to clean up urine all the time. It smells and its disgusting. Other then his peeing problem he is a really nice cat. Very sweet. I don't know what to do. I don't want to put him outside because hes never been an outside cat and I don't know if he will know how to protect himself plus there is a lot of wild animals around that might kill him. We live right next to a road and he doesnt know the dangers of cars so he could walk across the road and get hit. Taking him to the pound makes me sad because he will just get put to sleep. Hes about 7 years old now. I could take him to the vets and have him put to sleep but I just feel wrong about taking away his life when I could just put him outside to fend for himself. I really just don't know what to do and I dont want to have to put up with him peeing all over my house anymore. What would you do? What do you think I should do?

I'm in the same boat you are. I have 2 cats, the one has food allergies so if we don't feed her a certain brand and keep up on her shots she throws up food everywhere, the other is just getting stubborn in her old age, constantly knockin over the trash can, eating food off the counters and will not squat to pee. I have done just about everything I can think of except putting sticky paper on the counters (my mom swears by that method). My husband refuses to let me get rid of the cat by any means, since it was his daughter-in-laws from his first marraige. I made it his problem since he won't let me get rid of the cat, I don't clean up after it anymore, and I pretend it's not there. When it grabs food off the counter or knocks the trash can over and makes a mess, I make him clean it up. I also make him clean the litter box and underneith where the cat pee collects from spraying outside the box. He will eventually get as sick of it as I am. One fairly effective method of trying to fix behavior problems in cats is to lock them in a cat carrier for a few hours or over night, thsat worked on every cat I've had until this one. I hope this helps a little, P.S. there are humane societies or shelters that don't put animals to sleep, you just need to call around to find one.

If I leave food on the table for on minute to run in the other room to say answer the phone or anything when I come back never fail the cats are always up on the table getting into the food. I never know exactly what they have licked or touched so then the entire meal has to be thrown away. Its very frusterating. It makes such a waste so lately I try to remember before leaving the room even for a moment to cover all the plates and all the food with dishtowels so they cant get into it. My cats constantly get into the garbage and knock it all over and strew the food all around the house. Then of course they eat things that aparently don't agree with their stomachs as then I find vomit piles on the floor that I have to clean up. They are such a nuisance I wish that I never had gotten the cats!! My cat that pees all over HATES the vet and the only time it ever goes in a cat carrier is when it goes to the vets lol so it will NOT willing get into a cat carrier and he is so strong it is really hard to get him in a carrier. But maybe it would be worth a try if it will help correct the problem.

I think you should keep him inside and love him each and every day. It isn't his fault and shouldn't be punished for something he can't control. I have one cat that refuses to use a litter box any more so we got some puppy training pads and she is good at using those. Maybe that would work for your cat. Good luck in whatever decision you have to make.

That is tough. If it were me, I'd keep the cat but try to see if there are other health problems. If the cat wasn't neutered, I'd have that done. Just got one of my cats neutered today. He didn't pee outside his box very often, but he attempted it a few times. I have one older cat who pees on things as more of a behavioural problem. He gets very agitated over certain things (like me not waking up in the middle of the night to give him treats or fresh water in a coffee mug) and pees. When he had a UTI, he wouldn't use the litter box at all, and he barely went as it was. He finally peed in the car on the way to the vet. If your cat keeps getting UTIs, something could really be wrong. It would probably be best to talk to your vet about what is going on and how it is making you feel. Perhaps there is another solution out there.

Is he fixed? If not try fixing him sometimes that helps with pee problems.
