Liverpool have never won the Premier League and have not won the top division in England for years. However now with stars like Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard and Javier Mascherao playin some great football. Could they win the Premier League this season and if not who will?

Hi livanger,
That for sure. Liverpool definitely will win this 2009/10 title. They come close to win the long dream title last year. With the same momentum, they have a strong cause to claim that title.
BUT, that only happen when they can avoid this:-
1. Draw with the "small" team
This is the main reason they loose in the title race last year. They draw in 11 games compare to 5 for MU. And of that they draw (when they should win) with Stroke (twice), West Ham, Hull and Fulham.
2. Selling Alonso and Mascherano.
This two players is the main factor they can put a great pressure to Mu last year. They are the first man to be face before defender and goalkeeper. And, only a few player can handle them.
Thank you for this discussion and have a nice day. You will never walk alone.

How do we define "small" teams? As far as I'm concerned, every team in the premiership is a force to reckon with and, perhaps, the so-called small teams are the most difficult to play by "big" teams. Remember that Arsenal lost to Hull, Stoke and Fulham last season. We should brace up ourselves for more shocker next season. I hope Liverpool won't take anything for granted or else, the team may have to "walk alone"!

You raise some good points. Both of which, I agree with strongly especially the first one about drawing against the small teams. For years it has been are downfall. We would beat Manchester United comfotably one week then struggle for a draw against the likes of Stoke.

Liverpool had all those players and yet allowed Manchester United to clinch the premiership league trophy. Those players played great football last season and one is still at a loss how Man U was able to "steal the show".
For next football season, we just have to wait and see what will happen. No one should think that Manchester United is "finished" without their ex-talisman, Christiano Ronaldo, for Sir Alex Ferguson is an intelligent and highly experience manager who is able to create something almost out of nothing. Man U has a number of experienced players and young players who are yearning for success. Chelsea has not won anything in Europe for ages but the premiership is still a big one that the team is not willing to just sit and allow other clubs take cheaply. Arsenal has underperformed for too long a time and having secured an unenviable title of "settling for the second best", next premiership season is a golden opportunity for Arsene Wenger to prove that his believe in yongters and skill is for real.
In conclusion, Liverpool is the most successful club in Europe as far as England is concerned. The team can build on that experience and with dedication and a bit of luck, maybe, uhm, just maybe, the team may clinch the premiership league trophy next season. However, my personal desire is to see my darling club, Arsenal, winning not just the premiership trophy but alson the European Champions League trophy.

Well good luck with Arsenal. Possibly next season could be year. With less of the media spotlight on them. However for that to happen Arsene Venger is going to have to start spending, and sign some more quality players like Arshavin. Also I agree entirely with your point about Sir Alex. As he has shown time and time again that he can bring in the right people.

Liverpool will not win the Premier League this season- their fans have been saying that it is their season for the last decade or so. They rely far too much on Gerrard and Torres, and it is looking more likely that Mascherano and Alonso could both be on their way out of Anfield. Man Utd will still be the team to beat despite losing Tevez and Ronaldo, and Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City will all be stronger this season.

i think this time there is a chance for liverpool and chelsea to win the premier league...because the defending champions manchester united have sold their precious player Cristiano Ronaldo to real madrid..so now their mid field is very weak..
they have sold tevez too to their rival man city...
so there is a chance for liverpool to win this season..
happy to respond..
