What is Snooker?

By the photo, it makes me think that it's pool. I'm not quite sure though. I looked through the discussions on this category and there aren't many. No one has asked what it is though, so I thought I would. Does anyone know what Snooker is and in what countries it is played? Is it pool, just professional? Any ideas would be greatfully appreciated.

From the things I've been told so far about this game, it does sound like it's very strategic. It seems like it's even harder then pool is with narrower holes, and from what I've read online just now, so many different types of balls. I've read the cue off is a bit different, with the aim being to hit one of the red balls, but not necessarily getting it into the pocket. Have you played?

When I was younger we used to shoot pool a lot, in fact all the time. My friend called me one day and said he had a surprise, I went over to his house and his father had bought a brand new snooker table! It's like pool but the table is bigger and the slots for the pockets are narrower, this makes it much more difficult to play! It's fun you have to make a red ball and then a number ball in rotation, that's the basic rules! However once you master snooker then shooting pool is much easier because of the width of pockets. It really made us very good at pool and we would win money on side bets! tdemx

Oh well that answers another question I had thought of. My fiance told me that Snooker was just like pool when I asked him, and he had also said we could play on the pool table. Well that sounds like fun though and definitely a challenge. So there are number balls? The picture on this discussions shows on red balls I think, but I haven't looked at any of the other pictures, if there even are any. I bet it made you better at pool, and at an advantage when it comes to winning those bets!

So it's like pool! That's cool. I didn't know where it had originated from, I just knew that I hadn't heard of it before. From the way you make it sound, the game is mostly played in Europe, and surrounding areas. Well I appreciate the response.

This is a really good discussion because I am sure there are a lot of people who have heard of snooker, and I am sure there are people who have played it,and then I am sure there are people who have never played it but want to play it because they think it looks like fun,and then I am sure there are people who do not care about snooker and would not play it if someone paid them,I have heard of snooker but I have never played it,I have always thought it was sort of like pool but with different balls and different rules, but you still tried to get the balls in the holes just like in pool, but I remember you told me that the holes on the table are bigger so maybe it is not like pool, but who knows, but it does seem like it would be a lot of fun to try,but I do not know if snooker is played in the United States or not or where we could go to play it,so I guess we will just have to stick with pool because it is fun,and I hope that someone gives you the information about snooker that you are looking for,I love you with all my heart and soul, have a great day, good luck with all of your mylotting goals, and Happy Posting.
