some handy uses for plastic bags

Well there are a number of things you can do. my mother had a way by having a small paper basket in her bedroom and bathroom area, instead of buying special bags to fit those baskets, why not use your remaining plastic bags for that purpose. use a bag in the baskets and as they fill up you can just simply throw them out in the bigger cans. Another good use of any left over bags is using them to transport smaller things like ammenities in suitcases or even food going to parties and get togethers. perhaps even transporting a gift so you can have easy handles, but dont use it for something fragle that two hands would better serve. Heres another idea. Live on a roadway (and if you live in a house or an appartment you almost assuradly do) take a plastic bag out to your front lawn and look at the condition of the lawn and your driveway. Any litter that you find can be picked up and placed in the bag. This will keep your lawn and your small part of your community picked up and neat. Heck...it may not even fill the bag the first time....well maybe some lawns i see can. Pick up that front walk, your driveway side walk and that little patch of grass between the sidewalk and road. You can get more uses from those bags beyond this. they may eventually end up in a landfill...sadly...but at least you can get one more good use out of them. and be creative and come up with some ways of your own. So what do you do to help the environment?

We typically use them as trash bags. Unless you're having a huge party at your house, I don't see why you can't use those plastic bags as trash bags. They're small and you might have to change them everyday or so - but hey that should be ok. You get to save money because you don't have to buy trash bags. And you keep your house odor-free since the trash doesn't sit in the bin for so long. I also have a friend who uses them for doggy poo - to pick up that ooeey gooeyyness.

I keep a plastic bag in my suitcase for *ahem* dirty socks and underwear. I also use them to wrap up smelly trash such as meat scraps, cat litter box scoopings, etc. Also to carry things from one place to another. They get at least one additional use before they end up in the landfill, usually more.

I do use those plastic bags for stuff like that and I always use them in the smaller trash cans. However, I have also gotten several of the other canvas shopping bags that I use now for my shopping trips when I can. I have an article on associated content about living green- you should read it when you can. It is under carolslater. Thanks.

Well, we use the plastic bags we got from shopping to contain rubbish too. Similarly to you, we put the plastic bag over the basket, and throw all the rubbish into the plastic bag. For those wet rubbish (eg. food), we also throw in the plastic bags before throwing them down the rubbish chute. In addition to that, we also sometimes use the plastic bag to contain our "lunchbox" when we bring breakfast and/or lunch to work. It's also used when we need to bring things out to give to someone, or bring something for work purpose etc. I do sometimes bring a spare plastic bag out too, in case it rains, and I need to keep the umbrella in the plastic bag later. Well, I do agree that there are lots of ways to reuse the plastic bags we get from shopping. However, I also do bring my cloth bag out to shopping too if I knew that I need to buy lots of things. This could also save more plastic bags from being used, and it's also easier to carry the cloth bag...
