Black Men/White Women. A Fad, A Phase, Lustful Rebellion, or True Love

There's one simple fact that nobody can deny. Black men with a white woman on their arm has become a common place image these days. Some say this is simply a trend. Black men are using white women as a status symbol, while the women they are with are simply lustfull, and curious about this once taboo behavior, and will return to their own race in due time. Others argue that Interracial dating is an act of rebellion. Most often, a case of white women rebelling from strict and/or racist parents, getting back at Daddy. Another mentioned form of rebellion in Interracial dating is black men showing the world that the black race has come to be not only accepted, but embraced, and taking the white men's women is one way of throwing this in their face. Others still defend that Interracial love is a beautiful act of two people whom have fallen in love with one another, based on the content of each other's character, and not color. Which is the truth? Is Interracial love nothing more than a fad that will soon be phased out as easily as stretch pants and side ponytails, Or is Black on White love an expansion of rights that is here to stay? You tell me.

He he, I remember that 'once you go black you can't go back' line in high school. White boys started their own: 'going white is always right.'

Sometimes I feel that it is a fad. I am a black woman who dates outside her race only for reasons of attraction and nothing else. If a man approaches me that last thing I think about is his race. I get asked out by alot of white men and when we are out together I get more stares from black men than anyone. They feel like we have sold out or just gave up on the black man. I have even had to defend the person that I am with because so often black men feel the need to make comments about the person I am with. If you are dating for reasons other than a physical attraction I consider you to be a bigot and no better than a racist.

It is good to get the opinion of an African American woman that dates Interracially. Is this common in your area, in Ohio this is a rarety, but I have seen it increasing. What do you think causes the black men to feel you are "selling out"?

I agree with you, I often wonder why it has become such a controversial issue. Why do you think?

While I'm sure that there are a few instances where it's either a form of rebellion or a statis symbol, I truly believe that for the most part, it is due to true love. Take model Heidi Klum and singer Seal for example. They love each other very much and the fact that their skins are different colors has nothing to do with it. Besides that, I know several white men that only date beautiful white women as a statis symbol.

What do you think brought Heidi LKlum and Seal together initally? I've always been curious about that. Do you have any ideas?

Two Hands, Two Colors, One Love - Two Hands, Two Colors, One Love
I agree with you. What do you think their inital reason for experimenting outside their own race was?

I think that for some it's a stupid reason, but those that marry another race, etc, it's a matter of preference, my future sister in law has biracial children and white men are not attractive to her. It's simply preference I think, all the blood runs red so who cares?

It is not true that this is happening in unexpected amount. Such things are obious in some amount in this globlization era. Peoples have varied likes and dislikes. What matters if some has such. This can not be a issue.

An interracial couple is just two people who fell in love. Some of my white friends dated (and are married to) black men. They just like each other, that's all. Though, I'm sure some of the other reasons you mentioned are true as well.

Just out of curiosity, what are the lengths of their marriages? Some have speculated that Interracial couples marry sooner, and also divorce quickly. What do you think about that?

I got Jungle Fever!! I think it's here to stay... I've been there and done that, and have to say I'd do it again, again, and again. I happen to like vanilla, it's my favorite ice cream!:-)
