Help find ideas to improve the mylot tag system because of malicious users.....

Over the past month or so I have seen several comments in regards to people reporting, and tagging discussions inappropriately for no good reason other than they are bored or whatever there reason may be.
For example a discussion about verbal abuse was tagged as mature content, when there was absolutely nothing in that discussion that a 13 year old couldn't have read, and frankly the kids should read it because the information just might come in handy for them or one of their friends!
Others are tagged as reported or against the TOS when there are no noticible violations in the discussion.
I personally agree with another "lotters" comment stating that it's a shame someone marked that particular discussion as mature content because now many people will miss out on valuable information because of their content filters.
I think MyLot should restrict the tag system so that only the person that created the discussion, and MyLot staff are able to place tags on discussions. I believe this will put a stop to these people that are abusing the privilege.
Have you noticed discussions being inappropriately tagged or reported?
What do you think MyLot can do to provide a solution that will work best for the site itself, and the members?

When you start a discussion if you add the maximum of 10 tags there will be no spaces for other users to add more. That has always been the case but many seem unaware.

Yup but they will be the 5 that YOU put and not others.
It's only when you don't put then thatthe others can right?

Yes and if two people tag as 'reported' that would too right?
So if two people (or more) report the same discussion it is probably a violation right?
Basically the tags which are inserted the most will show up but if the starter fills them up they will take more time before the 'bad' ones show right?

It is a shame some mylot members are doing this. Maybe mylot should give the person who started the discussion some control over the tags displayed on their discussion, or maybe allow them to approve the new tags?
I think all mylot users should still be given the right to tag discussions and report them if they feel they violate terms and conditions. There are a minority of discussions that do violate terms. For those wrongly reported, maybe the reasons for a member reporting a discussion should be reviewed more carefully by mylot.
I have also noticed some discussions disappearing because one member writes something copied from elsewhere. It is a shame one bad response can wipe out a complete discussion that might not violate mylot rules. I was just wondering why mylot couldn't just remove that one response instead of the whole discussion?

I agree, there are several methods they can use to make it just a little bit better here. I do enjoy my time here at mylot, but I think that the whole tag/delete system should be a bit more controlled. These ideas you mentioned are good ones, who knows maybe someoday they can implement something like that.
