Do you have your own special rules when choosing a "best response?"

We all have to eventually choose a best response to discussions we've started for them to be considered by MyLot as "resolved." I was curious about what prompts each of you to choose once response above all the rest as the best response. Do you have your own special rules or critia when choosing the best responses to discussions you've started? Care to share them? Karen

Hi Karen...I reeally don't follow any specific rules when picking best response. I base my choice on the answer that best brings something to the discussion that may carry it on in a new perspective or will redirect it to another phase of the discussion. I also llike funny answers as lond as they are not sterotyping a group of people. flutterby

Hello Flutterby. I like the way and the reasons you have mentioned for why you choose a best response. They make a great deal of sense. Thank you for sharing them. I am going to keep all of that in mind :) Karen

Thanks so much...this question really gets you thinking asnd I guess I should have added in my former answer that sometimes you get that answer that just sorta comes out and slaps you in the face and makes you take notice...lol flutterby

I tend to mark someone the best instinctively. That is as and when I find someone's thoughts, substantial, funny, weird or whatever that gives it an edge over the others. Many times I get more good responses later in the course of the discussion. I wish I could mark more than one best! And other times, I go by substance. I give a lot of BRs to the newbies with good thoughts. However, having said this, I am bit lazy on resolving my discussions apart from the times when my instinct has the last say!

Hi Mim, I think I go a lot on instinct when choosing, too. There is one that always just "speaks out" to me. I leave mine discussion for at least a week, because as you said, if I mark a BR too soon, along comes one I like even better. Karen

HI Karan! There is no special rule, what I see is if the response is to the point and is relevant to the issue and wheather the respondent has touched to core issue in the discussion. Presentation and counter-comments of the respondent also carry importance, while deciding for the best response. You see everyone does not write deailed response, therefore, contents and length of the response also matter, when deciding for the best response.

Hi D. Your ways and reasons for choosing a best response make a lot of sense to me. While I have no set rules, there is almost always one comment that does seem to stand out among the rest. Thank you for sharing your ways. Karen

I agree. Sometimes, there are so many good responses, it is hard to choose just one.

Unless I find a really outstanding one I try to give mine to the newest people, I think that is a cool way to encourage them.

Hi Pat, that is a very sweet thing to do! I try to always check out conversations in the "newest" and the "no responses" categories and reply to them. That is my way of offering encouragement :) Karen

Hi Yugasini...I do not think there are special rules by mylot. But there is our own option at the top of each comment to mark it "best response" if we wish. When I go into the "unresolved" tab, all the discussions are there until I mark a best response on each.

Hi Yugasini...hm, I guess I don't have a formula, per se, but we all base giving a best response on something, yes? For me, I like the answer to make sense and to have some thought in it as well as relevance to the conversation. I also appreciate the ones that have taught me something new! Karen

Hello Oconnell. I ususally pick a best response always, but sometimes not for nearly a week as I like to see all the comments first. I love the answers that show someone was really interested in what they were saying and had truly read the question! lol Karen
