From your work, how many sick days do you have? Would you use all of your sick days within a that year? I meant, sometims personal vacation days might not be enough. So, sick days can be used to substitute your personal vacation days. Would you do that?

It depends on the circumstances. On my contract, I'm currently allowed 2 months per year on full pay but this would need to be supported by doctors certificates so could not be just a few days at a time without investigations/examination by the Occupational Health department. Sometimes people ring in sick but ask to have it taken from their annual leave to avoid having sick leave on their record. I wouldn't go that far but I dont see sick leave as being extra holiday entitlement. I work a shift system where we need a given number of staff to be on duty at any given time. We know that taking time off at short notice (as sick leave tends to be) makes extra work for our colleagues so, the majority of us wouldn't do it unnecessarily.

Over here, we have 14 days per year. In addition, we also have up to 60 days of hospitalization leave a year. I don't usually use my sick leave. I will say that in my previous years, I had not touched any of my sick leave for most of the time. Basically, I had not used any of the sick leave as substitution for personal vacations at all before too. I do not think I will do that too in the near future even if I had not enough leave...

Where I work, we are supposed to get 2 days a yr. I am not sure how they calculate this either as it seems like somehow I never have any Sick time available either. This is seperate from your Vacation time that is available. I have been there almost 3 yrs. and so I have 2 weeks of vacation time coming up really soon.

I get 6 sick days a year, I have used one for myself being sick in 2 1/2 years. The others got used when my husband was sick, he had surgery or when my step-son was killed.
I have a ton of vacation time and no sick time. But we have to schedule our vacation time out way in advance. If we don't have enough sick time...we don't get paid.

I only get 5 for the entire year. Mine are already gone because I have kids I have to use them for too. So usually, my vacation days end up being extra sick days for me.

In my job - we get 40 hours of sick hours and we earn our vacation days, 8 hours for every 120 hours worth of work. I've used my sick days for vacation purposes - we actually call them personal time. And I've used my vacation time for sick days. Right now I've accumulated a lot of vacation days and I'm planning to use them soon. The policy is use or loose, so I should use them.

I have just one Casual (sick) leave per month and it can't be carried over. In short, I can take a maximum of 2 casual leaves together if I really need to...not more than that....and if I really need to utilize my leaves, I need to take one per month....and can't sae 12 days for end of the year.
Sick leaves cannot be used to substitute for my personal vacation days.

I have 5 personal/sick days and 3 wks vacation and I try to use them all within the calendar year. I've been with my company for close to 9 years and it took 7 years to get this much vacation time and personal time. Soon I will go on vacation in August and I can't wait!!!!

That's so good for you. Does the company that you are working right now experiencing the effect of recession? Cause it seems it's a good company since you lasted for 9 years in there.... NICE.

I don't really remember how many paid sick leaves are available but it is more than enough. I know that many people will ask for sick leave when they just don't feel like working when they wake up. While I have no problem with this, I personally won't do it because I treat reporting duty to office as a promise I have made not to the company but to myself and I do wish to keep my promise if possible.

Well, we have 1.25 days of sick leaves per month, so that's 15 per year, with our company though, you don't have to earn it.. at the start of the year, those 15 days are already credited to you... Yep, I usually use my sick leaves, specially if I'm too lazy to go to work. LOL. I hope my superiors won't be able to read this post. LOL. For the past two years, I have used all my leaves, both vacation and sick leaves. My point is, that's why they were given in the first place, so that you can use them. right? LOL. Happy mylotting! =)

I only have 3 days Per Month. I would try and use those sick days for the same year. Who wants to go to work more than required right? Lol. & Yes i would substitute those days for vacation days! Here i come Disney!
