Do you practice to whiten your teeth with tooth whiteners at home or at the den

tist? A friend and I were discussing whitening our teeth at the dentist. I have never used whiteners except for baking soda or toothpaste with added whiteners (which I doubt are effective). There are times when my teeth look really white and bright and then another time a bit off white. When that happens I use baking soda to brighten and whiten up.That makes me wonder if it really makes sense to have them whitened by a dentist or to use commercial products to do so. In a local ad on TV a dentist indicated that some personns who pratice tooth whitening end up with sensitive teeth and as a result she recommends Sensodine toothpaste to those clients. I remember as a child when I ate a lot of fruits like mangoes and tamarind, my teeth seemed to become sensitive and when the wind came against them I would get sharpe pains in my teeth even though they were perfectly healthy. We used to refer to it as a tooth edge. Sometimes I felt like crying. It was that painful. If that is the senstivity the dentist refers to as a result of whitening then I'll definately pass it up and continue using baking soda when I want to brighten up. Its a bit harsh and definately not nice to the taste but I can live with that instead of sensitive teeth. Do you whiten your teeth (professionally or at home)? Do you suffer from tooth sensitivity as a result? How often do you whiten or have your teeth whitened?

i have been using baking soda for quite some time now and it works for me. Having the denstist whiten my teeth is an option but i thought about it and it's not really beneficial. It's expensive, i need to go to the denstist to get it done, my teeth will become more sensitive than it is right now.. I'll just stick to baking soda:) i can do it at home and it's not expensive:)

Suggest you to go to the professional dental hospital for examination and care, there are many kinds of method, you can select a method suitable for you, that's no problem! If conditions permit, had better have dental cleaning once ever half a year. The patient who has just had the tooth treatment, sensitive symptom is quite obvious, should pay attention to avoiding taking the over-cooling or over-sour food with strong irritation in the near future, so as not to aggravate symptom, delay the recovery process. Also recommend using leaf of Chinese chive or garlic juice, etc., to apply to the surface of sensitive position at the same time, can accelerate the recovery process. Wish you to have whiten beautiful teeth!

Hi appleit. Thanks for sharing but let me point out that I do have beautiful white teeth. They just get a bit offwhite from time to time. My aim here is to see if I should try the dentist sometimes for whitening purposes (not cleaning) or just continue using baking soda as the discolouration is not a big deal. Options: Baking soda whitened teeth or dentist whitened sensitive teeth. I think my baking soda home whitening method is still a bit more appealing at the mo but thanks for the tips. Happy mylotting

Same here! I also use baking soda whenever i notice that the color of the teeth becomes off white. But i also have the whitening teeth that i used every other day. So i bring with me 2 kinds of toothpaste, the whitening and the ordinay minty ones. I posted similar discussion about toothpaste and i learned that some whitening toothpaste can ruin your teeth on a prolong usage..thats why im using it every other day..or as long as it doesnt have to be too often, considering i have baking soda to back me up.

I have never tried any of the commercial products before. Every other day... I only use baking powder sometimes once per month for a few consecutive days. I really like grooming myself but there are certain things I dont want to have to do too often. Shaving falls in that group as well as brigthening up the teeth. I like when the effect last for some time. Thanks for sharing daryjane.

Crest white strips... I'll look those up the next time I go into the town. Once its not a long messy process I might just try it. Thanks YoungInLove

To be honest it is so expensive out here to be done. I did ask one time and was horrified by the price. I also use baking powder on occasions and a toothpaste that did work but I just cannot remember the name of it. It was not local htough. If I had the money then I would have it done but it is just not a priority for me. That reminds me - time for me to make an appointment and get them cleaned. Yes, I hate this too as I do have some sensitive teeth.

I whiten my teeth at home. I don't want to go to the dentist because I believe they are going to whiten your teeth, but the stability of your teeth is also at stake. If that is so, I'd rather have a semi-white teeth that is strong rather than a white-as-clouds teeth, that is not strong. I use baking soda as well.. I heard it is not good to use hydrogen peroxide based whiteners as they scrape your teeth off, just for the sake of whitening it.

Hi mreducator . Thats my view as well. I am not sure I should go looking for an alternative which will bring me pain. I like to be informed though so I'll keep listening to what others have to say. Happy mylotting
