Sweet potatoes, according to Korean medical documentaries, are high in fiber and among the best foods that one can eat to prevent cancer. The North Carolina Stroke Association, American Cancer Society, and the American Heart Association have all endorsed the sweet potato for its disease prevention and healing qualities. It helps lower hypertension, bad cholesterol and blood sugar level.

Hello friend,
I am sure the Korean researchers have come up with a really good result but the thing is you just cannot substitute sweet potatoes for rice. They might have the same nutritional value but it is not possible to eat sweet potatoes instead of rice, is it?
Thanks for sharing it with us.

Oh yes and no. Yes because we in the Philippines can't live without rice. I'm not saying it's not healthy, as well. But I'm just raising sweet potato as a substitute for rice, not an exchange for rice. Rice nowadays in the Philippines is very expensive. In fact, there has been a health and economic program initiated by one of the provinces in the Philippines in June 2008. That time, the price of per kilo of rice suddenly shoot up with the rice shortage. We call it "Saksak sinagol" in the dialect, that is mixing sweet potatoes with rice, boiling it, and we eat it. Most of the poor adopted the scheme to save on rice. No, they don't have the same nutritional value. White rice is just carbohydrates, sugar and calories, while sweet potatoes are rich in fiber, vitamin C, potassium, protein, calcium and niacin. The lowly sweet potatoes have a lower glycemic index compared to rice, that means when they glucose that trickles in your blood sugar level is lower. One won't have a high risk of inflicting diabetes. We Filipinos indeed can't live without rice. In fact, it is our staple food.

sweet potatoes are a substitute for regular potatoes, which we know have a high starch content which turns to sugar, the substitute for rice, to my way of thinking would be brown rice or wild rice both are better because they haven't been refined. The fiber for the brown and wild rice being the husk that are still on the grains.Eating more rice, veggies, fish, chicken, and turkey and fruit, will help with weight loss.Less red meat for women, while men on the other hand need the red meat for muscle mass, they just shouldn't over do.
