I am so thrilled to welcome my first 'grand puppies' as my terrier dog finally awarded me with so many puppies. I was up the whole night on standby to monitor her delivery. I was nervous watching the process of her giving birth as it reminded me of the labour pain I went through during my delivery many years ago. I think animals are no difference as I see her twitching as her puppies come out one by one. It only took her less than an hour to deliver all her puppies. I acted as a 'nurse' and recorded everything. Luckily there wasn't any complications as the vet had told me that should there be any complications she need to go for c-section. She had 6 altogether but one was still birth. Now I am left with 5 puppies. The b&tch is small and it surprises me when she produced half a dozen of cute puppies but they are so tiny, the size of a handphone. I am thinking of how to take care of them as these 5 puppies are far too many to care for. Do you think that I should keep them all or give them away to good homes? I am at a cross-road right now as they are all so cute. Taking care of all of them is draining my purse and giving them away is breaking my heart. What do you think?

Hi zandi458, it would be good if you just get the number of dog that you can handle. Dogs is not so different with real human babies actually. They need care, attention and love. Care - for example, i know it will require money to give the best for them. The vet check up, the food, the accessories and stuff, the vitamins and all, you really need money for all of this. The attention - your pet would love attention of course. You can actually give more attention to pets if you can still control them. Love - yes they do need love. And they can get that love when you care for them and pay attention to them. Love - care plus attention to pets. I hope you can decide what is good for you and your pets. Happy mylotting and smile always!

Thanks for the worthy thoughts. As much as I want them to be with me, I don't think I be able to cope with so many as presently I have two big ones to care for.

Give some of them to your friends or relatives whom you know will be able to look after them really well. I think that's the best thing to do. Congratulations Grandma Zandi lol!

I feel delighted that I have upgraded myself to a new 'grandma'. I am trying to shortlist some people here whom I think are capable of being an adoptive parents to my little ones.

First, congratulations, uh, "grandma"...LOL. Well you won't have to make any decisions for at least two months as the puppies need to be with their "mom" until they are weaned. One thing you could do though is start asking around now if anyone is interested in adopting the puppies...also I'd recommend getting the mother fixed in a few months time so you're not surprised with more "babies'

LOL..yes I am so proud to be a 'grandma' and it keeps me busy these few days attending to the puppies and the mother. Such a big surprise for me as the mother is small size and able to produce half a dozen of puppies. I love them all pye...

Well maybe you can send one over here in Philippines to my address. . I'm sure Moochie would be excited about it. Hehe.. Moochie has been alone for quite some time now and it's high time for him to have a partner. lol! I know it will cost you a lot to send them over so i guess it's a bad idea. hehe.. I think you should just give them away or sell them.

LOL....I would send them through the speedboat. You are not far away from my place. Don't keep your Moochie too lonely too long. He too needs to experience love from his species.

I think you should give them away. Because they make you happy, but at the same time, stress you out by taking away A LOT of your hard-earned cash. If you give them away, they will make quite a few people happy, and you will continue being able to afford food. Lol. I understand how hard it is to part with adorable puppies though. Good luck :)

It all depends on how many you would like to keep. In my town I have a limitation for 3 pets per house. Maybe you can keep 2 and give away 3? I am sure when proper time, you would be able to give away few puppies....

I will wait till they are ready to be weaned before I think of what to do with the extras. We are lucky we don't have laws to limit how many pets we can keep but having too many will not only tear my purse but I can't give them individual attention.

Me and my terrier - My Raggy and I
Such a cutie! I wish I can have one.... I guess its practical to give them away. Believe me, their just cute for now because they are still adorable puppies but when they grow up you'll start to have headaches. Its not an easy obligation to care for pets. I guess you try to keep one and four try to give it away. I have a terrier also and she gave birth to 5 puppies on 2005. My heart was breaking when I gave away three and two are with me right now and I feel like my headache with them will not stop.

my dog LALA - A terrier dog.
Actually the terriers aren't big eaters and the one I have is a very small one with beautiful fluffy fur that she is often mistaken for a battery operated toy dog. Look at the picture of her here.

Oh that's so cute! If you can't take good care of them all you should give them away to your relatives or your sister or friends or people who can take good care of them properly. You can visit them once a week and can borrow them to take a walk when they little bit bigger. Cheers.

However you are fond of the pets, it must be tough time to monitor the delivery and have them properly fed. Unless you can afford physically and financially, definatively with some help, you are to give up some some day. That is for the interest of both yourself and your pets. A short time painful departure will lead to long time peace and health. Believe you will manage it. God blesses.

This is no ordinary dog but something that is kept indoors like a real fluffy toy. I treat my pet dog almost the same way I treat human. Believe me, she sometimes sleep with my kids. But I don't know how the puppies turn out to be. I'll wait until they are big enough and decide whether to keep or give away.

I am thinking hard now coco. They are very adorable and I can't bear to think of separating them. Well, if you are nearby, I don't mind giving one to you as I see that you are capable of taking good care of a puppy.

They need there mom for arleast 6 weeks I know its hard but its the truth. I hope you have puppy pads they accually help when they are in the house. Once they are 6 weeks old you can give/sell them as you please. They are very cute but expensive.

Thats a good story. you just have to remember, 5 extra puppies is alot of responsibility. Not only financially but morally as well. You must pay for the vet, shots, & food but you also must care for them. It's a pretty busy job especially with 5 puppies. If you feel your up to the challange keep them all ;)

I love puppies and I know how difficult it is to part with them. But I've also seen the face of a child when they are picking out the puppy, and really that just makes it worth it. It just gets so expensive to take care of multiple dogs with the vet bills, feedings, etc. I guess in the end though you have to decide how much you can handle and afford and still be able to properly care for them because it is a big financial responsibility. I'm sure you'll make the right choice.

Yah....that is what am thinking, the financial side of having to handle many pets. Moreover they are indoors dog and having many of them running around the house would turn my place into a kennel.

First congrats on being a new "grandma" but I think you should give them away. Trust me, it is hard work. My dog had four litters before I had the money to get her spayed and I had to take care of those puppies until I found them good homes. If they are in the house, they will wake you up all hours of the night. Sometimes, when my dog didn't want to feed her babies, they would come in the bedroom and wake me up so I could make her feed them. Then I had to sit there, half asleep, until she was done and they were all back to sleep. I had a lot of sleepless nights. Do what I did. Take pictures of all of them before you give them away so you will always remember them. It will be hard to get rid of them but you will be happier for it in the long run. I have 7 dogs to take care of now because I got attached to one one puppy out of three litters and kept them. They are mostly outside dogs but it is still hard and expensive. Good luck and enjoy the puppies! :)

The mother is quite responsible as she is always caring for the puppies. I will take your advice to take their pictures before giving them up for 'adoption' Infact I have put them in my computer record. Thanks for your views.

Congratulations grandma...lol. Puppies are so lovely. They shouldn't be costing you anything at this point as the mother will be feeding them. Of course when they are old enough to be weaned, giving them away or selling them is necessary but some people might be strangers...it's not always possible to give them away to family or friends. If you have them given their shots and vet checked, you should sell them and thereby recoup the expenditure from the sale. Hope you find good homes for them when the time comes.

my puppy - one day old puppy
I am a happy grandma now but the thought of giving them away breaks my heart. I have few willing takers now within my siblings so I'm not too worried about their welfare after they leave my home but I will keep two of the puppies.

Congratulations! I think it's still a great news to hear that your dog gave birth. Although they are a lot, but at least they are safe and sound:) I think there are a lot of puppies to handle for a family. I think it will be better to give the puppies to the relatives or friends who are trustworthy. So that the puppies can be taken good care of and grow up well. If you think about it, then you know it will be a good future for the puppies. A lot of dogs at home can be troublesome and tiring. You can still see them now and then. You can also ask your relatives and friends tell you how the puppies or even give you the photos. You will not leave them. I love China

Thank you...I am thankful that the whelping was successful and happy that the puppies are all doing well. I need to be selective to whom these puppies go as they are pure breeds and caring for them is more like human. They need to see the vet every now and then and their foods should be properly given. I have also thought of that in having all of them will be tiring and leaving little space for myself and maybe lesser time for mylotting. LOL
