If we do not have to worry about writing score and writing stars

Janice Brand, the representative of Helium, mentioned the possibility of not having to worry about writing score and writing stars for established writers in Helium. This is what she said in page 6 of the "Title Splitting - What's it all about" thread under News from Helium, "We do have some short-term tweaks, but let me throw this concept out there (none of this is settled yet, it's still in the "great idea" phase, but I want you to know where we're thinking): Helium remains open to all who want to post good articles. Those with drive earn writing stars. But after you've earned four and five stars, you really have achieved a different level. Maybe you get a title, maybe one pulsating quasar star, but the point would be that the star-angst goes away: You've arrived. There needs to be a check in place in case a five-star writer goes off the deep end (it's happened!), but I rather like this idea. Anything that takes the worry out sounds good to me." What do you think of this idea? If this really happens, I will write day and night, to reach the 4 writing stars level.

It is kind of like taking forever for me to reach any writing stars. Hundred over articles written before this 'stars' coming out. Taking ages to even reviewed and 'leapfrong' these articles. My Helium account remains without any writing stars. But then again, I am contented with the income coming from Helium even without these stars. Cheers.

Between the range from 59.71 to 65, fluctuating all the time, been pumping in more and more article to increase that writing score. It was originally at 50% which is totally pathetic. Cheers.

I also don't have a writing star, and have a score of between 62 and 66. Many of my articles are in the top 3 of their titles, so I don't understand it. I've started looking at starred writers' profiles to see if I can learn from it, but some of the starred writers have written some pretty average stuff. Their friends must be rating them high. I know it's supposed to be anonymous, but you can soon find out who writes what if you search the article title. That said, I enjoy Helium, and even though I didn't post any new articles in June, I still earned a few dollars.

I had a writing star, once, but it disappeared. My score fluctuates widely on writing. Rating stays good, though. The mystery is that I write well enough to have sold for upfront pay, and good pay, 6 articles in the market place. I guess, however, that those who rate do not think my writing merits the higher marks. A mystery to me, as I said. But I still keep trying, and I do enjoy Helium. Karen

Hi PeacefulWmn, it is hard to maintain writing star, especially the first and only writing star. The rating system in Helium somehow push a new article right to the top, and dethrone those older articles. The writing score will adversely affected if the article drop from 1/5 to 3/5, a 40% drop in writing score. That's why always leapfrog, and push the article right to the 1/5 or 2/5 position. It is very frustrating to watch the writing score daily. I think with the title splitting, many writers will see a drastic drop on their writing score.

I'm telling you it's your writing score. Look through the how to earn info in the my helium section. The more articles you have the harder it is to maintain the score. If you can keep your score in the 90s it will be better for your writing stars.

Yes, the score is hard to maintain. I have been following your suggestions...writing to empty titles. It will improve :) Thank you for all the help :D Karen

It would be a happy day for me when I do not have to worry about the rating stars. I only have one star, and I have lost and gained that a few times. I think I am a fairly good writer, but like one of the other posters on this discussion, I just don't understand why my articles don't consistently get high marks during the ranking process. First of all, I don't think many people read the articles all the way through. I wish there were some independent way (like the Helium staff) who could decide. I think I would do better, frankly. No matter, although I love what Janice Brand has to say, it wouldn't have an impact on me because I am so far from the 4-star ranking. For now, I am just trying to get to the 300 article mark so that my writing star ranking will move up one star automatically, hence buying me some worry-free writing time. I have started using Leapfrog, but often it doesn't make a difference. That tells me that my article wasn't all that bad in the first place. Anything that would lessen the worry about maintaining my star rating would be good news to me. I wish that once you achieved a star level, it could not be taken away again. That would be a great improvement to me! Thanks for sharing this information with us, Scheng!

Hi Art, just a tip, for leapfrog to work, you have to change the first and second paragraphs, make the first two paragraphs very appealing, and fit the titles. I think you will see a difference soon. Just give it a week or two to settle. I'm looking through some of your articles now. Obviously the writing and grammar are much better than mine! The only thing lacking is a bit of emotions to appeal to readers. For example, in "Christmas gifts for the man who has everything", your first paragraph says, "The man who has everything: Surely he is the Christmas shopper's worst nightmare, or is he? With a little creativity and a good understanding of just what makes this man tick, any number of gifts you might select this Christmas will fit the bill in making this one satisfied gift recipient. All you need to do is THINK SPORTS" How about this? "You are desperate for a gift idea. Christmas is a week away, and you have no idea how to buy things for the most important man in your life. He has everything. He does not need anything at all. How to buy Christmas gifts for the man who has everthing? All you have to do is THINK SPORTS"

I have five writig stars and five rating stars and whilst in some ways it would be good to not have to worry about them again it is bad in another. The fact is that having a high rating score and thus stars should mean that you have good articles, which will mean they are higher ranked and should earn more. Thus it is good motivation to leapfrog and keep articles high, but also to keep writing high quality articles. If the stars didn't matter then people could just churn out poor quality articles in order to get upfront payments.

Hi Mrtimharry, that's why it's still at a great idea stage. I think when Helium comes up with some quality control checker, it is possible! The five writing stars system works well to a point. However, for those with nearly two thousands article, it is hardly a motivation to write. I think the idea of letting those with substantial articles with high enough quality to stop worrying for writing score is a good idea, provided that the quality check system is good enough to stop abuse.

I am practically writing all day an night to reach the four star level now so I can increase my upfront payments! I think it is great for those who maintain a good writing score!

Wow Canellita, that's great. After the changes to upfront payment, I doubt anyone will write to those titles with more than five articles. Your writing score is very secure. If you can get a sudden inspiration, or possess by demons to write enough articles for another writing star, that will be great!

haha Canellita, relax oh, dont write till you break down! July is a long month, you have a lot of time to write. I suggest that you focus on a few competitive titles and a lot of empty titles for the first few weeks, while using the last week to leapfrog, rating articles, and write only to empty titles. In that case, you can secure your writing score enough to get 4 writing stars.

My writing score is 92.46%. My lowest ranked article is 10 of 57. Most of my 43 articles are 1 of 1. There is nothing to leapfrog.

We can improve them by learning and writing. Only by learning more and more, can we don't worry about writing score and writing stars. Come on!
