There's a topic on msn currently about americans eating hotdogs as opposed to steak this fourth because of hard times. Well let me just say this I was born and bred in a community in western Kansas pop. 4500. I'm not a farmer but am as close to them as any family and I have moved from here and back about 16 years ago. I always thought to be fortunate having been well fed as a result, a lot of people here are fat I say because of the wealth and the work, so here its more a choice to eat hotdogs because others are, rather than because of a lack of steak. We our family have lots of steak in our freezers and many people in the community though some even suffer from cancers and such. I say from overeating beef. It's important to have beef in your diet I think but if my share could go to someone less fortunate that would be fine I love hotdogs also. There's an up side to everything so if it could be more balance I'm for.

While I am certain that many people will celebrate with hot dogs rather than steak because of the high prices, mainly those will be people with large groups I would think. If you're just barbecuing for the family, steaks might be the entree. Besides, most people like hot dogs and consider them to be as American as apple pie, so this is the day for hot dogs

i'm not american, but i assumed the food you ate at these celebrations was bbq stuff so hotdogs and burgers to me sound very normal, and who cares if its to do with steak being expensive as long as you have a great day
