Do you Use The Rate Buttons In Discussions?

United States
July 5, 2009 12:00am CST
I use the the rate button on all the discussions I write. I give everyone that replies a positive. I do this in hopes that it will help there stars go up. I also rate any of the discussions that I reply and make a response to. I rate everyone's reply positive in that discussion also. I just wanna help peoples stars. I was wondering how many people use the rating system to help people get higher stars. I think its a neat way to help your friends. What do you think?

Hi cookie! I also rate the people in my discussions positive! And I rate the person whose discussions that I respond to positive too! I like to help people get their star ratings up too! I have always done this since I started here. I never rate anyone negative even if I don't agree with what they have to say. On the rare occasion that someone has been really rude or flamed in my discussion I will not rate them at all rather then rate them negative. I know that alot of my friends don't like the idea of the star ratings at all and if I had my choice I would rather that they not be there because of the problems that they do tend to cause, but as long as they are there I will try to help out as many people as I can to get their ratings up!

I also give all that reply positives. I rate all those who reply to any of my discussions. I also rate all those I discussions that I reply to with positive ratings. I have only rated one person to help them get a higher star and that was one of my referrals and I only did it a few times. I think it is great that you want to help your friends out. Let's just hope they return the favor to you.

Like I said MTDew some how I went down from 8 stars to 1 star in 2 days and that in some ways really hurts. I am just glad I have nice friends like you:)

For that to have happened so quickly like that it would seem that someone is rating you negatively alot..so I hope that it stops..and that your star goes back to being a 8 again soon.

couldn't it be that the webmasters realized you were giving rates to everybody and lowered your stars according to this rule-breaking? I'm just making a supposition, I actually don't know.

sorry but I don't quite get what does it change to the person, whether they are rated 1 or 10. Are they paid more? I actually haven't posted much so far, I don't think I've aver been rated and I don't know haw this system works actually. I'm going to read more posts after I write this, maybe it's explained below... tnx anyway

Let me tell you I know the difference already. When my star was 8 and I wrote 7 post discussions I could get 50 cents for a days work! I wrote 8 discussions yesterday and I only have 2 stars and only made 4 cents!!! Yes I am very very upset. four cents for all that work, I cryed!

I rate positive when someone responds to my discussions its just my way of appreciating their time that they spend on my discussion. I must have rarely used the negative button. I only use it when i see someone violating the rule. Well there are few who do this hence am not required to use negative button often. But it's sad to see that some are using it in the wrong way. They don't understand how to use it and rate negative when someone disagrees with them. Well happy mylotting.

First to suj123, what a beautiful baby!! :) Second, I know and understand what MYKJ999 is pointing out. And I also know that their are people here on mylot that use the rating system in a mean way. Because someone or some group of people have taken my rating from 8 to 1 in a matter of 2 days!!. And I have no idea who or why. I haven't done anything to anybody. And I have over 10 pages of friends. But it is OK. I have only been here about a month. I will rise again. The people like suj123 and MYKLJ999 are fantastic. And like he points out if we just follow the rules things will be fine. I had no idea. So I am glad he pointed these things out. I am glad he did. Maybe the people that use the rating system to be mean will read what he pointed out. At least me and suj123 tryed to be nice with our rating:)

I'm on the same boat as you are then! I rate all the discussions and the response too. I'm not sure if my response were being rated or not, since I think very positively, I assume it's rated as well! I hope after reading this discussion, those who forgot to rate and also for those who never rated before will start practising it! We all are here to help each other. Keep lotting, keep rating and keep earning!

I just want you to know that every single time you answer a discussion that I write I rate you. And it is positive everytime unless it is a nasty comment. So have no fear here:)

Yes, I do. At least the + one. I don't think it's important, at least probably not for everyone, but I find it like a pat on the back for bringing me an interesting discussion. Personally I don't care much about stars, and I know of a lot of mylotters that don't either. But as I said, it's my way of saying congratulations on a good discussion, or good job in that response. Regardless of the fact that they don't know I did it.

Of course I understand that. And that's why I do it. I do point out that for me and some other mylotters, stars don't really matter much. Of course for others they can mean a lot. Leaving a plus rating is easy and a nice thing to do. However I don't agree in rating every single discussion I read or respond too "just because". I want to reward good posts.

Well the ratings help a person like me gain stars. The higher the star the better the earning. So for someone like me it is important.

I very much agree. I do the same thing for the same reason. I think we help others to help ourselves. I thought this was what we were supposed to do. I think it is only right. I think we should all live by the goldent rule and think alittle about others in this life. It comes back to us if we do.

Ya my friend, I always use rate button on all my discussions and also to those discussions that i respond to. It is not that i always rate positive responses positive, I also do rate positively to those responses which contradict me and also adds some thing to the discussions. I always follow one rule that is "No rating is better than negative rating." But it is not that i will never give negative rating, I surely give negative rating if some one become offensive and also use slang.

I can agree about the offensive part, but what's bad about slang? I like seeing different ways of using language. I am using myLot to further my study in English language and practice it. Or is it that the slang you are referring to is also connected to bad words?

I feel that if anyone's response is good, I will give them a positive rating. If the response is short or not pertinent to the discussion then I won't rate them at all. I don't gvie negativs, as I feel that is mean and vindictive. There are some that will rate other users negative just because they don't agree with them. I don't think that is right either, as we all have a right to our opinion whether we agree with them or not. We should be able to express ourselves without fear of ridicule. If we can't do that then there is something wrong with our society. I love it herre in mylot and I am here for however long I can be. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

I'm a little confused by all the ratings talk. Do you not get paid for a good response unless someone else thinks it's good AND takes the time to rate it? Does that affect how you get paid? I didn't even know there was a ratings system until you said something. I'll have to start using this system. Do the ratings on a single post affect just that post or the actual user?

Oh yes! In a great big huge way! The higher the star the better the pay. I had 8 stars two weeks ago and did 9 discussions and answered 60 plus responses and made 50 cents. Last night I wrote 8 discussions and answered about as many responses and I only have 2 stars and only made 4 cents!!! I cryed when I saw that!!!

I do the same thing. I always rate positive though... never use the negative button because I think it shouldn't be there. It gets used unwisely, and by people who just don't agree with what you're saying and to me, that's ill-use. I do however, rate all discussions and responses with a plus, because I feel that everybody here is here to offer an opinion, whether it be helpful or not, and they've spent time in giving their responses. That, I'll acknowledge, with pleasure. Brightest Blessings.

I didn't used to know what those button were until recently so I have started to rate the responses too, I hope I could rate and help them increase the star or if I encountered some really bad or impolite responses, I would rate it negative. I agree it is a good way to help all the mylotters in creases their star! :-)

It really depends how lazy I am that particular day. And sometimes, if I don't see any discussions that I would like to comment on , I just rate other people's comments, and I do check back on my started discussions, and I choose my best response. =)

I usually do not rate to all the responses. While reading if i find anyone's response really helpful, i do rate it positive, i may or may not respond to the discussion. Even for discussions stated by me , if i feel its really a perfect one, as i was looking for, i rate it positive, n even mark the best response of all. But yep, i try not to rate negative...
