Over night a bunch of the leaves on a container cherry tomato have turned very yellow. They were looking a little droopy yesterday but these are VERY yellow. they are in a container with a basil plant. I am in Delaware, in the USA. What would cause this?

If it happened overnight, it could be damage to the root or a fungus. Is the container large enough for the plant? Has it been getting more water than usual? Tomatoes don't like wet feet and sometimes turn yellow when their roots can't get enough oxygen. If this has been coming on for awhile, it's probably a mineral deficiency, like potassium or magnesium. If that's so, mix a couple of tablespoons of Epsom Salts in a gallon of water and water it with that - but if it's had a lot of water lately, wait until it dries out a little.

It could be the soil, possibly not acidic enough or needs more nitrogen. Have you been adding fertilizer? If not you might want to go to the nrusery and get some miracid or a water soluble 5-5-5 or 10-10-10. type fert. I used to work in a nursery and people sometimes use just potting soil and that usually needs some food for the plants! tdemex
