It actually takes more than what you've heard, you should try it yourself so you're able to prove so.
I purchase plenty, much more than what I sell and one thing many people don't do is read the seller's item description as well as comparing it with their reputation.

I buy things from Ebay all the time and have never had a problem 
In fact, I just bought an item last week, a giveaway from my favorite baseball team that I never would have gotten were it not for Ebay because my team is in Pennsylvania and I live in California
