Imagine that you are able to read minds... How whould it be?

My first thought was an episode of the Twilight Zone, I think it was called "A Penny for your Thoughts" where a man flips a quarter and it stands on its side. After that he was able to hear everyone's thoughts. He heard the thoughts of one of his co-workers who was fantasizing about stealing money from the bank they worked at and head off to a tropical island and retire. The man ended up telling his boss about his co-worker and then in the end came to find out that it was just a fantasy of the man's and he never had any intentions on following through. Seriously I think that being able to read other people's thoughts would be more of a curse than a benefit. Sure there would be people who would use it to gain money or power, some would use it to try and benefit those who cannot speak for themselves, and others would use it just to hear what people think about them. I would never want to be able to read minds because hearing over and over other people's thoughts about me would likely drive me insane. I really don't care about what others think of me now but then I don't have to hear their actual thoughts, lol.

That's an interesting concept. I was a newspaper reporter a very long time ago, and I quit because I was not comfortable prying into others' lives. I don't like other to pry, nor do I want to pry. If I had this power, I think I'd try to find a way to get rid of it. We can all share what we choose to share and maintain privacy for everything else.

I agree that it would be awesome in some situations but it would be kind of awkward in others. I mean what if you were talking to someone you thought was just your friend and then you hear their thoughts and it turns out they want to be more than just a friend and you don't share their feelings. And it is kind of hard to control your thoughts, sometimes things just pop into your head and it would be hard not to judge people for their thoughts even the ones they can't control. You could definitely do a lot of great things with that power. It sounds great in theory but I feel like if I ever actually got that power I would get sick of it pretty quick but it is hard to tell.

I'm sure there would be a lot of things that I'd really rather not know!! It would be very helpful to tune into the thoughts of people who are unable to communicate through some sort of disability or medical condition. To be able to tell medical staff what those people were feeling would be a major breakthrough. Also, you'd find out who your real friends were and you'd not waste your time sitting through a whole interview if you 'heard' the interviewer thinking you were rubbish but, it could cause problems if you told other people things you'd discovered that they didnt want to hear... like how their "friends" felt about them.

The power would be useless if you could no longer become close to another person. You would be lonely and eventually become cynical and reclusive to stop the noise in your head. I say you would probably go insane. All people have a love-hate relationship with individuals, whether they like, love or dislike them. Knowing someone you love does not like something about you will destroy your relationship. So think twice about wanting to wake up with a new "power" that would leave you isolated. Nice question - made me think a bit.

I don't like the idea of reading minds. Sure, it would be neat, but people deserve privacy. When I want to laugh at someone in public, I do it in my mind so I don't hurt their feelings. If you were a judge, it would be useful(as stated before) but any other time, its doesn't give people privacy.

Being able to hear or communicate with others with the mind has been a device in Science fiction for a long time,and ideas on the concept have both advantages and disadvantages. Being only able to receive thoughts without control over what you do receive could conceivably drive you mad,never being able to shut it off or again have the privacy of your own thoughts..If Control was possible,so that you could select who to tune in on,it would be like a superpower,and so could be used for good or evil..a crimefighter would have an advantage,but so would a criminal.Relationships would change drastically.the thoughts of your closest loved ones would be an open book..could you feel the same way about someone,knowing they could have access to all of your secrets? Everyone has things in their past they'd rather keep that way."The Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy" books had a planet of people who were enlightened,peaceful,and smug about it.Then one day the entire population became able to hear thoughts,completely destroying their serenity,and they discovered conversation and entertainment noise was able to blank out some of the background thoughts of others,so they went from quiet,peaceful and reserved to a chattering,gossippy mob,and took to hosting concerts by the incredibly loud rock band "Disaster Area" to block out thoughts, who were so loud,they didn't even stand on the same planet as their sound system,they played from a well insulated spaceship in orbit,and sometimes around yet another planet!

It would be great if I can read people's mind because then I would know what they truly feel about me. When I go to the job interview, I can sense what the interviewer wants and what they thought. There are just lots of things you can do with reading people's minds in a positive way but in a negative aspect, sometimes you really don't want to know what people think. And if you "can" read people's mind, you are stuck to it. Sometimes you don't want to think too much and to see what other people think can be really annoying. Just like the twilight series where Edward can read minds besides Bella. There are goods and bads to it but if I can do it, I'll use it to my advantage and help people out if they need to.

Haha i think it's cool that we are able to read the minds of others,but it can get negative too.Because once we are able to read their minds and know some of their secrets or problems,we may want to try and help them,i am not saying that helping is bad,but when the numbers increases and you get to know that more people needed help,we will get very busy and tired because of trying to help all of them.And So,there's both pros and cons.

Wow, that will be very great if i can have the mind reading power! Haha..it would be just like having the lie-proof machine, no one can tell lie to me anymore. Besides, i can also know what the other people are thinking and their needs too. By this, i can make use of this to fullfill the other people's will, and let them be happy, as well as i won't make them angry or accidentally say something which will hurt their feelings. Hm..using the mind reading power to win and earn some in games? That'll be great idea too,lol. But just don't overuse it.

I think life may be more clear if I could read minds. OR life maybe even more complex because we know others' thinking, we know many things that we are not know before, or the things we should not know. And I would not rather have this kind of ability. I would not like to know everything about the world.

If I could read other people's minds I could find out if they were lieing, you were talking to a girl and you could find out what she was thinking of you, you could be giving a show and see if they were enjoying it, like kruxius say you could guess what cards and if they were ing bluff while they were playing poker, you could play those games that you've got to anser questions to win money, you could guess the answer... ~Happy Posting~

hai mylotters i would be surprised if i am able to read others mind and could find all secret things in ones life.also it helps to earn if we use this power in aright way and helps us to save this world from annihilation.

If I was able to read minds it would be like thar guy in Heroes, Matt Parkman. You would be able to predicte every people actions or words. You would know when other people are lying to you( that would be soooo sweet, since everybody lies). in a relationsships it would be great because you would know every thing they are thinking and , with boy/girlfriends, you would know if he/she is cheating on you. It would be great!

It would be great in some situations. In court the criminals would be shown as guilty or innocent very quickly. I could find out what people are thinking at any time of the day. In some cases that would be soooo creepy considering how some people i know think!!

If I had the power of reading minds I hope it is at will. I will prevent evil when I can and why not, win the lotto, or it will be to help me make money, it will be neat. I for one do not want to read the minds of my loved ones tho. That's just asking for a broken heart.

If I possess this kind of power, to be able to read minds, I definitely know who is my enemy, and who is my friend. I will find out whether my girlfriend really love me or not. Or other girls have good feeling toward me or not. It is definitely an advantage. Thanks to the movie "what woman wants", by Mel Gibson.

It would be awsome. to know exactlly what there thinking and wanting. Thats one of the special abilities I want. I wouldnt use it for evil or cheating in games like poker. If I could prevent caos I would do my best to prevent it. On this show True Blood this girl Sookie is able to hear peoples thoughts it is awsome.

well, the first thing that comes to my mind is that it can be very dangerous. see, there are hundreds of thoughts that go through a human mind. if you start reading the minds of your family members and friends, and get to know some random thoughts that enter their mind's, you could get into a mess. we all know what kind of thoughts enter into our minds based upon different situations. Even, if we do not mean that, the thought is definitely triggered. so, i for one would not want this ability.

I don't think it would be funny to other people knowing that I was reading their thoughts.. And I don't think it would be funny to me neither because the relationship between human beings would have lost its essence. If relations weren't mysterious they wouldn't be relations at all. Of course it's funny to read minds sometimes, but I wouldn't read my friends thoughts because that would be unfair.
