Is world peace possible?

I've recently read the book PeaceJam: a billion simple acts of peace. It makes excellent points about the roots of much of the suffering in our world. The book is a call to action for young people to take on projects that address these problems. It gives me hope. The issues they address are: Equal access to water and other natural resources; ending racism and hate; halting the spread of global disease; eliminating extreme poverty; social justice and human rights for all; rights for women and children, and their role as leaders; restoring earth's environment; controlling the proliferation of weapons; investing in human security; and breaking the cycle of violence. Each issue is addressed the the ground level rather than by officials and politicians. And the youth projects discussed in the book are pretty impressive. Check out their website and read the book. [www.peacejam.org.] The book inspires me to look at what I can do where I am to ease the suffering in my own area. It is all to easy to believe the problems are too big for me to impact, and then do nothing. But if these youths can make a difference then surely we adults can do as well.

I wish I could answer the way I want to. With a big smile and a yes. Unfortunately I dont think we'll ever experience peace in unity. There will always be someone who feels slighted or left out. In every agreement there is always someone who had to take a loss. These people are the ones we'll never be rid of. I wish that we had cures for everything imagineable and everyone loved everybody. Jealousy, envy and greed will never go away. Because of these there will always be someone who has to have more.... Sad to say but No world peace is never going to be possible. dl

I do still have hope for the future when I read about what young people are doing around the world to work for justice and peace. I do what I can to make the world I live in a bit better every day. I'm not always successful, but I believe that I have made a significant positive difference in many lives. Let's keep it going.

No matter what information or opinions are put forth, we should always have hope. I am not a scientist or a military specialist. I dont know whats really going on. MOst of us go on what is reported in the news or on the internet. I could be and hope I am wrong. However I see the people in my surrounding area and they are shooting each other just because. I dont see that stopping anytime soon. We arent raising the next generation to be peaceful. How can we expect them to act accordingly. I still hope and pray every single day that I am wrong. dl

I doubt world peace is possible especially with south korea ignoring everyone and not wanting and being secretive. I dont think world peace is possible and if it ever does happen I doubt it will last for long since one country is bound to ruin everything and cause a war again.

We create that which we imagine. As long as so many people imagine only war and violence that is what we will create. What if we all could imagine a world with peace, justice, and cooperation? Wow! That would make a big impact.

One person, even doing only one thing, still makes their world better. We need to commit each day to that fact.

Absolutely! There are so many ways we as individuals can make a difference.
