We made fried dough...

Have you ever made fried dough? I had a coupon for pillsbury biscuits, the refridgerated kind. I bought a whole bunch of them at a really good price. But I didn't get many snacks. Last night I wanted something sweet, so I asked hubby to make fried dough. He'd done it once or twice before. You take the Pillsbury biscuit, flatten it out, and drop it in the deep fryer (or any pan of oil will do). They were done in just a few minutes, and we sprinkled cinnamon and sugar on them. Then we tried mixing it up... I wrapped one biscuit around a marshmellow, then another around some chocolate chips... then we even melted chocolate chips and drizzled the chocolate over some fried dough. Yummy!! How do you make fried dough?

Hmmmm that sounds yummy!! I once made some cheese balls, I used flour, water, pinch of salt n pepper and some grated cheese and then rolled them into balls and deep fried them for a few minutes, with a dip they were pretty OK. It was something that was just cheap and easy to make.

Now you are seriously making my mouth water! Oh I know what I meant to tell you, I had my last ciggie before I went in hospital last thurs, so up to now I have gone 6 full days without one! I am going to try and stay off them, but if it gets too bad then I shall just start again not going to make a big deal out of it.

My husband filled one of the biscuits with a bit of sliced cheese and fried it, I guess that turned out pretty good. So for dinner last night I wrapped the biscuits around a bit of hot dog and added a bit of sliced cheese and baked them. The kids seemed to like them and they seemed more filling than a plain hot dog.

This sounds like our fried dumpling or festival - also called Johnny cakes. YOu make a regular pastry dough with flour, tip of salt, butter/margarine and maybe add some cornmeal ans sugar. You kneas it lightly and leave in the fridge for a little while, Then break off a piece of dough and make it round whilst still gently kneading it or into sausage shapes. Put into hottish oil and brown - doesn't have to be deep fried - and turn them until brown and then leave them gently cooking until a knofe inserted in one of the dumplings comes out clean. These are commonly eaten at breakfast time with any local dishes are are a great favourite in this country.

Yep, that's about the same thing, they're really good, but mine have to have the sugar on top, it has to be sweet!

They are a great filler for hungry children. I will try it with the sugar on top and some cinnamon. We had them for breakfast yesterday with a local dish of fish and vegetables. They are so good.

We do this every few months..the joys of having a deep fryer. Kids love it when they spend the night. I sometimes will take a pop lid and cut holes out and deep fry the holes the kids like them best..

I used to take those and cut a hole in the middle and deep fry them as doughnuts then sprinkle on the sugar and cinnamon. The kids loved them and they were quick and easy. it has been so long since I did that that I had forgotten about them. I'll have to do that again soon.

Yes, we made a few like that as well. Hubby kept trying to make twisty ones and pretzel shaped ones. Mostly only the flat ones and the doughnuts turned out.

Yes grandmother always made what you call fried dough, we called them donuts. Well last week my grand daughter was over here and wanted donuts, too late to go out to the donut shop, so I suggested making them from the biscuits we had in the fridge. We got the biscuits out, cut them in fourths, rolled them up and dropped them in the deep fryer. What we didn't realize was these biscuits was the flaky kind, in layers. They begin to come apart, layer after layer. What a mess we had, but even with this we rolled them in powder sugar and they was good for a snack in a time when it too late to go to the store and get something. So if you going to use biscuits, please make sure they aren't the flaky kind.

We like the flaky kind the best! If you put the whole biscuit in instead of breaking it up, it will stay together and it makes the best kind of fried dough!

Oh wow, that sounds yummy! I've never made fried dough, but you've inspired me enough that I might want to try. I rarely cook anything in oil like that, not even fried chicken. I guess it just wasn't something I grew up with so never really learned. I love fried anything, I just don't do it myself. Yep, gonna remember this and give it a try. I LOVE fried dough/elephant ears at the fair and such.

So...wouldn't that be like donuts? lol. that sounds really good! I've never done that though. I probably won't do it either. I've been on weight watchers for almost 2 months and I'm down 10.8 lbs. So I'm trying to keep myself on track. But maybe one day for a treat I'll give it a try...

Cheater dounuts. I have never made them, but I have had them before. Another good way of doing them is to cut each biscuit into 4 or 8 pieces and then toss them in the oil. They end up like little baby donuts.

I've never made that before, we have to watch those types of foods because of my husband's health problems. It sounds really good but, I couldn't make it since he would be drooling all over them

My aunt use to make me donuts out of those all of the time. She would cut a whole in the middle of the biscuit with a 2 liter coke bottle cap though. Then she would fry all of the holes and donuts up then drop them in paperbags filled with a cinnamon/sugar concoction. They were great! That brings back lots of memories for sure!
