Wear your cycling helmet for crying out loud!

Sunday my wife and I had to drive into town on an errand. On the way we pass a long stretch of bicycle path. It was getting good use because the weather was beautiful. Problem is I noticed the majority of the riders were riding without a helmet. I know it is not law to wear one but I would have expected more people to be smart enough to wear them. I know it is just a bicycle/recreation trail but bike helmets are designed to save your life when you land on your head. Guess what... Those type of accidents happen just as often on bike paths as they do on the road. My wife discussed this at length and then went about our business. On the way home there was a traffic hold up. When we got to the accident, there was an ambulance waiting on the side of the road. They were carting the victim across the grass from the bicycle path to the ambulance with his head all wrapped up with gauze. Kind of made my point. When will people learn?
