In my oppinion (though I know that alot of people out there will kill me for this)I think that the Hobbit has a better story and a faster more action packed plot line than the Lord of The Rings series. I say this probably because I've read the Hobbit like 3 times. However, I could barely made it through the LOTR series once; actually I fell asleep in the middle of the second book.
To be fair I do think that the LOTR series has potential (it really does have alot of action just widely spaced throughout about 1800 pages of reading) but for my own personal preference they could have cut it down to about a third of the length.

I actually liked the Hobbit a lot more than the Lord of the Rings books. Granted, I could only get a couple of chapters into the LOTR books - so I don't really know all about what they're about..But I thought the Hobbit was definitely more interesting!

I personally like the Lord of the Rings Series because of the information that went into the books. The detail is excellent! I am a detailed person and so I like to read detailed things.
I have actually never read the Hobbit, although I want to. I love books but have very little time with 5 kids always hollering "Mommy!".
