Had some personal work at a place which is a two hour flight from here. We left home early in the morning at 4oclock [late night and early rising] to take a 6oclock flight .On reaching the airport, and after checking in, it was announced that the flight was rescheduled to 8.45. Later, the announcement came by stages and the flight kept getting rescheduled to 9.45, 10.45, 11.30 etc to takeoff finally after 12.15 or so. We reached our destination and after finishing the work, that took nearly 3 to 4 hours, had to take a return flight at 7.45p.m. Now this got postponed to 9o clock. Anyhow, we thought we would still be back home by 11 or so .The flight did take off but the story did not end there. There was a problem with landing and apparently there was some lack of fuel and the flight had to be diverted to another place [obviously one has to be safe than sorry and I do not question it] and finally this 2hour flight became a seven hour flight and we reached home after 3oclock in the morning.I am however grateful to God that there was nothing serious and this was only an inconvenience.
What was your worst travel experience? Please share.

That's an awful story but guess it could have been worse. Glad you finally got home safe. Any flight for me is a bad experience. I hate to fly but will do it once in awhile. Have a flight out the end of this month to visit our daughter's family. It's about a 2 1/2 hr. flight with Southwest Airlines. They are always on time. Best airlines I've even flown. I get terribly anxious several days before the initial flight but am ok on the return flight home. It's crazy! I can't think of any really bad experience when flying. Have had a couple of rough landings but all turned out fine.

Hi Kala!
It appears that you really had a very bad experience. Our airlines are notorious and so are the airport people.............LOL! One cannot do anything, when one is at the mercy of airlines and faulty aircrafts.

You are right, at some of the airports, even the updates are not provided in an appropriate and speedy manner, so that passengers should not suffer.

well, mine was the flight that was supposed to land at Houston/Hobby instead landed at Dallas/Love (I had friends meeting us for the layover at Hobby - had to call my brother in Lewisville to call them and let them know about the change.)
But the worst part was when as I was exiting, the pilot burst out of the cockpit saying "They'd better fix that d*mn thing"
"Fix?" I said. "FIX?"
AND then they put us back on the same plane to fly us home!
I think the worst flight my mother ever had had to either be when they had to delay the flight while they replaced the door of the airplane, or when the flight she was on was 5 hours LATE because of the strong head wind!
Or, to put it another way, the flight that was to come in 4 hours after she was to get in, came in an hour early because of the tailwind, and an HOUR before she got there!
Now, without a doubt, the worst flight my dad was ever on was the one where the plane didn't stop until the front tires were off the tarmac at the end of the runway. They had to drive cars out to bring in the passangers.....

It is annoying when a flight is delayed by many hours. I was traveling with my toddler son and our flight was meant to leave at 1935 but it was more than five hours late. The reason was fog that had the aircraft landing at a different airport which it had to come back to fly from London to Cape Town.
I have had three really terrible travel experiences. On the ferry from Sumatra to Malaysia I was really sick. I carried on being sick and had a high fever for one week. I went to a coastal town in Malaysia and one dark evening fell down a drain. I injured my leg really badly. In the Maldives I was walking along a lonely beach when I was attacked. That really hurt me and made me feel really frightened.

That sounds just terrible! My worst travel experience was 2 years ago. My husband & I traveled to San Deigo for his son's boot camp graduation. The plane ride was good. Califorinia was beautiful in November! The bad part of this trip, traveling with my husbands drunken ex-wife! Talk about ruining a perfect vacation! This woman was begging everyone, from us to flight attendants for booze because she just couldn't handle her little boy becoming a Marine!! Lesson learned here: NEVER TRAVEL WITH AN EX!!!

Actually I have a discussion somewhere about flight delays. But here are some of my worst experiences:
1. Coming home from Germany after a year in college there. My flight home was booked on a DC-10 and all the DC-10s were grounded. So they found us a flight to NY but there was a 7 hour flight delay going to LA. And because I was coming home from a year over there with a LOT of stuff, customs really went through my things.
2. On a business trip to South Bend Indiana, the group I was with decided to drive to Chicago and catch a later flight home so that we could see some of the town. Unfortunately, waiting for the later flight, some idiot decided to call in a bomb scare. We all got sent back through security, the plane got sent down to the end of the airfield for a thorough search, the baggage was all ex-rayed. We finally got to Denver where we had, of course, missed our connection and had to wait until 4 in the morning for the airline to bring another plane. Some idiot was hollering at the airline folks like it was their fault.
3. We took the family to Orlando, FL about 2 1/2 years ago. We wanted to get a connection through Texas but by the time I had booked the flight, the only available connection in our price range was through Denver. Talk about turbulence. We had a HUGE drop, two aborted landings, my younger daughter got sick and it was one of only two flights where I almost got sick myself. Meanwhile, my son is going "yee hah, do it again!"
4. On a recent trip from Sacramento to Burbank, I had a flight delay due to snow in Las Vegas of all places (that's where my plane was coming from). I was going down to the LA area for a business lunch. Due to the flight delay and people returning cars late, it took an hour before the rental car company had a car for me. I was supposed to have landed a little after 9 am, have the car before 10 and stop into the office before lunch, but I barely made lunch.

Hmm...that's really crazy...can you believe that similar thing happened to me once even with a long haul international flight with an European carrier. On the transatlantic route, the flight had some trouble and it went back to Frankfurt from it's half way as it was closer than Philadelphia (the destination. The same flight was scheduled to take us to Frankfurt, but everything got delayed by something like 20 hours !!!

I think the worse experience I have had was traveling around ten hours with 10 people packed into the car. This was when my children were little, and one of my nieces was a baby. She cried all the way there, the car was so packed with people that you couldn't rest because everyone was so packed together. Even the older kids slept in the floorboard if they wanted to sleep. When I got back home I said I would never do that again. When I first said that I wanted to go there were only suppose to be just 5 of us,what happened was at the last min.another adult said they wanted to go along with their two kids and someone else. I hadn't seen my family for a few years so I put up with the trip in order to see them.

My first trip in U.S was to Las Vegas and it was during the Thanksgiving holidays of 2008. I was extremely excited about the trip as it was my first with my husband and was my first to Vegas too. Everything went on so well till my return journey. Half way through the journey we get the news that there is heavy snow fall in Milwaukee and so they will not be able to land there and that they will be stopping at Minneapolis. By 2a.m we reached Minneapolis to find out that there was only one attendant to arrange things for the night and our flight will leave at 12.30 p.m. All the people in the flight were so tired that some ended up sleeping in the chairs of the waiting room. By 4.00am we get our hotel accomodation only to find that there were no taxis available to the hotel at that time. Till 5am we kept checking for taxis in the freezing night and finally got there by 5.30am. The next day to our badluck my husband & I were late but luckily reached the place before the flight left.
Happy that we boarded the flight and that my husband can work for the rest half of the day we were pretty relaxed, but things did not happen that way. Just before the flight took off they realised that there were some mechanical problems and that the flight will be delayed. Frustrated with the thought of another couple of hours of waiting time we learn that there will be further delay and the other flights to Milwaukee was running full. By 4pm we were so damn exhausted that we just wanted to reach home. Unable to arrange another flight the U.S airways arranged a bus for all the people. And to everyones surprise no one complained about the six hour drive as everyone wanted to just reach home at that point.

My worst was going from London back home to Vancouver... The ride was smooth to begin with, and it did leave roughly on time, but around halfway through the flight we were flying over open ocean, and we hit a patch of severe turbulence. The plane was *really* shaking, and some people were starting to get sick/worried. This lasted for almost half an hour, so it was quite an experience for all of us.
As for flights leaving/arriving on time, I've had only good luck with that (whoohoo).
