Do you remain occupied with your bad dreams the previous night ????

I have often come across people who postpone their work when they have a bad dream the previous night, such as death, accident and all odds. Last night I too had a sort of bad dream that my father was declared dead and I was in a sort of trauma. In morning I was supposed to go to college for some reason as now we are having summer vacation. I really brooded over the dream but shedding all ill thoughts took away my bike and rode to College and came back home safe. Nothing happened. Now tell me do you get preoccupied with the dream that you had had the previous night and postpone certain action or journey? Rajib 07.07.09

Hi Rajib! Hope you are fine. This is a nice post and I couldn't resist responding. Our society has a lot of taboos that we have been following even without knowing the implications. They are deeply instilled within us and we cannot come out of the groove. It's said that we must not go out in dark when our loved ones pass away or that we must travel after a bad dream (as in your discussion). There is no scientific explanation as to these. These are essentially craps except for the fact that we do stay in a frame of mind when we do not quite cater to the world normally. Bad dreams keep us occupied and we think and ponder about those again and again. This could be instrumental in causing fatal accidents. In olden times wiser people knew that fear of God or Fate is the only way they could control ignorant people. So, that is it!

Hi Mimpi, I am just fine, thank you. Yes you seem to have hit on the head of the nail. This is just a warning sort of thing that our forefathers wanted us to nail somewhere and control us with the fear. Yes that people get too occupied with the dreams they had the previous night and when with the same frame of mind go out driving or riding meet with an accident. They hardly come to believe that dreams are the crap of the mind that gets input in diverse way and percolate deep into the unconscious mind and suddenly pop in our dreams and the ignorant take it to be bad omen and remain martyr all day long.

Hi there! It depends on the dream. If the dream is about me in trouble or in some danger and that it has a connection on what I have to do for the day then as a precaution I will postpone whatever I have to do outside my home especially if my activity isn't that important. I kinda believe in my dreams. I know dreams can be some sort of seeing the future. It has happened to me many times already and so I see my dreams like a warning sign. But I don't think about it too much. After a day I will go on with my usual itinerary. The same goes if the bad dream is about people I knew or a family member, just like for me I give them a warning so they'll be extra careful when going outside or traveling. Some say that dreams is the opposite of what's gonna actually happen in the future. If it's something bad then the actual happening will be positive and vice-versa. I'd like to believe it and I hope it's true. But still, I'll take extra precaution for my safety. Ciao!

Hi there, I know many people take bad dreams as an omen and are very serious about this. But if you read the 'psycho analysis' by Sigmund Freud might be your perception would change a bit. Al the best.

I have had very few dreams that bothered me that badly. I have had afew. Most were about something happening to my kids. If it wasn't for it being so realistic and in color it may not have bothered me so much. A halacaust and such terror. That was one of them and it scared me so badly I was stricken for quite sometime.

Hi there, This is probably because you were too much concerned about your kids and it went deep in to your unconscious mind and it pop out in your dream. There is nothing to worry about.

Hi thee, This is quite strange. To be frank, have you yet seen a psychiatrist? What I feel about is you are inwardly scared of something that you are not fully aware. Go for an introspection if anything such happened in the past and you got terribly panicked and the traces are still there. Nightmare, not being able to move hands and body etc. have happened to me too but not in your amount. Why not shed away all your preoccupation and sleep normally. You can give it a try.

Most of us do not have the luxury to avoid work and other responsibilities simply because we are disturbed by our dreams. I often forget upsetting dreams upon waking.

I will change things because of a dream, yes. I can generally tell the difference between a dream and a warning and have learned to heed the warnings. If I dream of being in a car accident I avoid that particular intersection if I know it and there is usually a crash there when I would have been there. If I dream of falling down the stairs I'm very careful the next day. Sometimes I'll start to put my car keys down someplace other than where I usually do and get a vision of myself needing to go somewhere very badly and not finding the keys. So I put them where they should be and usually have an urgent errand shortly thereafter. So I don't necessarily postpone things because of dreams but I've learned the wisdom of paying attention to them.

Hi there, Not only you there are many who have this feeling of being possibly in a precarious situation following similar dreams. But what I feel is that i have not had any such. It is more of the mindset than the reality.

I generally forget bad dreams. When I remember them upon awakening, I'll immediately get my mind on something else and, before long, the dream is forgotten. Dreams are typically nothing more than our subconscious being allowed to play and they're not always pleasant. But, they're still just dreams. I never heed them. If I have a premonition about something, I will definitely act upon that. But premonitions are done while we are conscious, dreams are nothing more than our subconcious. Sometimes, they may prove to be something to worry about but only if the same thing is going on in our waking lives that warrants caution. Personally, I'd rather forget bad dreams or nightmares.

Hi there, That is the best way. Even if you had a disturbing dreams better you divert your min d on something else and you know perhaps a dream usually lives for 20 seconds but some do live linger. Thanks a lot ...

I have had a few bad dreams in the past. Fortunately they did not affect me the next day. Bad dreams are mostly meaningless. Well, at least that is what I understand concerning the types of dreams. Even vivid, non-frightening dreams did not make me thinking about them for the whole day.

Hi rosdimy, That is nice. I too find no point why one should put off any job for the next day as he/she has seen a bad dream. This is meaningless. The The night before yesterday I had a terrible dreams and I was supposed to ride my bike for 60 KM and I did not hesitate and I came back home safe.

Dreams are just a dreams. It would just may be a coincidence if someone's dream happen in reality. Nothing would happen in your life if every dreams you had would prohibit from doing whatever important activities you would have to do....I would not give any attention whatever dreams I would have...thanks

Hey Rajib! My dreams are usually positive but I have had several recurring bad dreams in the past. The recurring nightmares were the same each time. To answer your question, yes, I have had thoughts of a bad dream get in the way of my work or life the next day ... not majorly, just sporadic thoughts here and there. May I ask you a question? In your past have you ever had a prophetic dream? If not, then I would do your best to keep yourself busy and forget the dream unless it recurs. Good luck!!!

I have had bad dreams that have affected me and freaked me out, and that I have thought about throughout an entire day, but I have not had one bad enough that would keep me from functioning normally or keep me from doing something. I have had dreams that have made me nervous about certain things. I had one about my son when he was young running away from me and climbing in to the lion's cage at the zoo, and a lion was just about to attack him when I woke up. I was always worried about him running off on me and I held him even tighter after that dream.

Hi, k! Not really. I have not postponed a vacation because of a bad dream, I have not gotten that far to. But, if I had a dream about me dying or someone else, I may try to avoid it. It can be like Final Destination.

Hi thee, Most people tend to forget the dreams that they meet at night and this natural. but interestingly I do not forget so easily. It is however not good that you remain occupied with the bad omen carrying sort of dreams.

I do sometimes feel quite distressed after a very bad dream and it can really impact my feelings for a significant duration of the following day. But I have never changed plans because of a bad dream as I am not superstitious at all and therefore I do not believe that having a bad dream is a prediction of what will happen in real life. I just think that a dream is a dream.

All dreams are to be left there itself on the bed. You open your eyes to see a new morning. You can't go with the darkness of the previous night to your new morning. Can you? For that matter can anyone? Then what should stop you from doing your duty? meapas.

hI, HAD ALL ACCEPTED THING THE WAY YOU DO THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO PROBLEM BUT THAT IS NOT THAT CASE. People do care a lot what they see in the dream and the following morning;s schedule might change depending on the nature of the dream.
