Productivity when Making Money Online

July 7, 2009 4:36am CST
I’ve been making extra money online for a few years now having started off like so many with review writing, ptc and here in the UK daily clicking. But we all know that doing these will never amount to making anything more than a little extra cash. But here is the thing, although we know this and to make serious money online we need to look at the likes of affiliate marketing and MLM, the draw of making money immediately rather than working towards long term goals is hard to ignore. I know that I struggle with doing work which will more likely pay dividends in months to come rather than immediately. So how do those who are making serious money online manage to maintain their productivity when it comes to their long term goals rather than succumbing to instant money, so to speak?

Hi, While making money via affiliate marketing etc does take longer, as you mention the rewards for it are much better. The thing is though, for those that hang in there and do start earning good money via those methods it actually becomes easier to manage your time. For one, once things are set up properly you don't have to do much with it - in some cases you may need to just do some general maintenance - for example once you have some blogs set up and they've been online for a little while you may only need to spend an hour or so a week getting new traffic or cleaning out spam etc. As you're earning a good regular income you may also be more inclined to invest some to automate many of the processes you now spend hours doing which again means having to spend less time etc. In many cases the bottom line is that once you start earning you actually spend a whole lot less time working at it so it's easier to find the time/productivity etc to do it.

This certainly makes a lot of sense, I just need to get out of the mindset where instant money ruins my focus on long term goals. Hopefully a few of the projects I've got on the go will reach the point where I won't need to worry about instant money.

I find, unless I plan my day - usually in either 30 minute or 1 hour segments with breaks in between - I tend to do low value, but often interesting stuff. So, I think online marketing requires the same strategies as any other. Have a variety of ongoing projects. Spend time every evening planning which projects you plan to work on the next day and assign time slots for them. Have long term and short term projects, stuff that will develop long term income and some for immediate cash. Have some "blue sky" projects too that may, or may not, develop any short term income, or may or may not develop any long term. If a project has been costing money but not making any for some time (say a year) put it on hold if you think it has future potential, or dump it completely if you don't.

I make money online only. the secret to have 100% productivity is to work as hard as you can and more tired you are, the more you need to work. It works like magic, You get more tired by resting than by working. Because the next day your body is much more able to work the double. Just try it and see what I mean

Hello there. This is a very good discussion. Ive always wondered about this too. I think on the quest for online earnings, most people like the idea of instant hard cash rather than waiting for a long shot but with more earnings. Perhaps some are needing instant cash and do not have the time or knowing the right programs to choose.article writings and reviews are some ways that oone can try out. And there are those whom slowly find the time to write a book or comfortable in writing for a publication or some sort. Affiliate programs are good but in most cases, a good traffic is needed. Good discussion here.

Hi! I'm wanting to start out too. I can't answer your question before I begin on the journey of making money. So I wanted to ask you where you began your money making road. Where did you write paid reviews......?

I know as a writer, the same problem occurs. And for those of us, who make a good part of our living online, it is compounded. You just have to be aware of the problem, and set a reasonable goal, then work at meeting that goal. One of the rules of thumb that I picked up from the print market is that you should be making as much from your backlist (stuff already published [typically royalities]) as you are from upfront payments. I think that is a reasonable ratio for online earnings also, therefore that is what I have been aiming for.
