Howdy,
I created a blog for my school, and it mostly chronicles camus issues and events. I started it about 4 months ago, and I ve only had about 800 pages views (which isnt too bad, there are about 5000 students at my school though). Some of the writers that ive hired dont write very much, so i do most of the writing. I would like to think of myself asa pretty funny guy, but I have some developing to do as a writer. If you used curse words on a blog, or talked about lewd topics, would that take way from the value of the blog? or would it actually help the blog if used in a funny manner?

Humor is the way to go on most blogs. Profanity however is a typical no go. When your opinion on subjects is different and radical compared to most people's opinion, people have the tendency to stick to your blog longer and more frequent.
It depends on your readers whether you could write about lewd topics. When they are very serious people and they expect your blog to be rather serious writing about a rather lewd topic might be all wrong.
Just my two cents.
