Today, after almost a year past my last blog entry on sleep apnea. I have received a message from a sleep apnea sufferer.
As mentioned, it has been a year but of course, I never lost the interest in the subject. Because of the message from Joseph of Bahrain, who is suffering from sleep apnea, I felt that my researches on the subject finally paid off.
I have given some advice to Joseph on how to manage his weight and his sleep problems.
He is a 40 year old and over-weight. When he read my blog entitled Avoid Dreadful Sleep Apnea, he said he was alarmed.
Later in the discussion, he admitted that he has seen a doctor and the advice was a surgery. I never have seen anyone who is willing to undergo surgery without trying natural remedies and I sure understand why he is asking for help.
My advice to him was to manage his weight. He is already going to the gym but he has not changed his diet. Therefore, the advice I gave was to manage his weight with regular exercise and a diet program.
Dieting is dreadful for many but if you are facing a problem like sleep apnea, then probably, you need to be serious in weight management.
Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder where a patient usually wakes up in the middle of the night grasping for breath. Actually, sleep apnea or stoppage of breathing happens many times during your sleep. Either you have a collapsed throat or you have so much fat in your air passage. If you have severe sleep apnea, your brain may loose air and more serious problem may come into play.
Thus, to avoid surgery, Joseph has to manage his weight by regular exercise, a diet program and development of sleep pattern. Sleep apnea sufferers are commonly insomniac and this has to be managed immediately.
Do you have the same problem like Joseph?

dear josiedd,
as you already know by now, the one that is probably, as we suspected, and as the doctors have told us, who is suffering with this sleeping problem is our two year old baby boy. my wife and i probably snores too, in our sleeps, but definitely, our baby snores more. what i you have mentioned, in this discussion is someone that is suffering from sleep apnea is an adult. you never mentioned anything with babies, correct me if i'm wrong. our baby isn't overweight, he isn't an obese. what more noticeable about his behavior or attitude, he's so energetic. he plays a lot, he dances a lot, he entertains us a lot, he really is one super duper naughty boy i ever saw. i mean, how could anyone tell he has sleeping problem. anyway, as you mentioned in your comment in my own post, getting help from anyone in the politics would be a kinda awkward for me. i work with the government and i don't want the commission or anyone in the government or any entity will find a hole in my appointment. thanks a lot for this great discussion. and by the way, if you have time, please take a look of my previous discussion about snoring and it's all about him and a lot more funny stories posted there. here's the link:

no, i don't have a problem like that but someone i know from chatting has. we talked about his condition. he told me that he wakes up so many times in his sleep and he, too was advised to manage his weight. there were many sleep tests that were done on him and he was advised to undergo surgery which he did. he was hoping his sleeping habit improved but after again a series of sleep tests, he still is in the same situation. he is using CPAP now, which he really does not like to use as u have to wear it during sleep (it is a mask worn during sleep).

I understand how difficult it is using the CPAP. I have seen the gadget and it really is somewhat discomforting. But oftentimes, this is one solution that you just have to endure.
However, you said that he had undergone surgery and his condition did not improve? His doctor has to remedy this problem.
Another problem could be his weight, his throat collapsed in his neck and this is what is causing him to loose some air when he sleeps. Likewise, if this condition runs in his family, his doctor should be able to help him.
Likewise, tell him that he should not sleep alone and undergo regular exercise when he can already.

Sleep apnea is the way a person breath becoming lower and then with higher breathing sounds. The dangerous cases when a person sleeps and his breath stop for a second and back to the same pattern again. It is treated by doctors and if the treatment is effective the patient can be back to normal again. I do not have the same problem like Joseph. But, I snores sometimes when I sleep. That is a problem which I would like to remove. I am deeply embarrass especially if i am sleeping with a companion.

Hi! Neelianoscet,
Snoring is a common problem most of us who share bed with a companion worries about. It will help to avoid eating at least 2 hours before you go to bed. Also, sleeping flat with uncomfortable pillow likewise causes our airpassage to be blocked and this causes snoring.
If the above is not the case with you, then it may help to see a medical professional. He will be able to help you find a way to avoid snoring.
Before I end, are you overweight? Fats on the neck likewise causes blockage in the airpassage and this will cause snoring, if you can manage your weight and exercise regularly, you can sleep well.
Thank you for responding to my post, have a nice day.
