Do you leave valuables in your car at night?

I thought this was pretty strange... A few cars in our neighborhood were broken into the other night and at least 2 people had laptops stolen from their unlocked cars... I mean, we live in a pretty stable neighborhood, for the most part, but that's just plain stupid. I mean, I lock my car every night - I have had things stolen in another neighborhood once. And I NEVER leave anything valuable in it. I even take the Garmin out. If they broke into my car they'd get away with about $1.00 in change, an umbrella, some used toners, acccounting magazines and an ice scraper.
Would a theif get anything valuable if they broke into your car?

Hi Missy!!
I usually don't leave any valuables in my car overnight. I do get paranoid about someone breaking in and hot-wiring it. I live in a "safe" neighborhood. But what's really safe these days? However, my car is usually in the garage anyway. The only time it's outside in the drive way is when the bf wants his car in the garage. We use my car more when we go out and what-not.
Would they get anything of value? I have a fair amount of pennies in there. And lots of maps (who uses maps these days? Hehehehe). And just a monkey pillow. So not much to steal.
How have you been?

Hey there! Doing good here, just been way busy lately...
I don't have near as much change in my car as I used to - I never use cash any more!

The only thing they might get other than some tools are things that the children have left in the car. I grew up in LA and lived in a few not so great neighborhoods and no way would I leave anything valuable in the car.

Normally I park in the garage but there have been a couple of times I have forgotten to close the garage which is scary. I don't have much in my car that is valuable except my iPod. If I park in the garage I leave in the car, if I park on the street(which is very rare) I will bring into the house. I have a couple of umbrellas some pens some gum, cheap sunglasses and a couple on cheapo fleece jackets and blankets in the back.

Even if our garage was cleaned out I don't know that I'd park in it. I'd end up hitting the walls all the time - done that before! So I just take any valuables out and lock it.

Hmmmm I've left my purse in my car over night (but i have a fairly large dog, am on a farm) my cell phone sometimes change or my xm radio. I've never had anyone break into my car. I've had some drunks try to steal my dad's tractor from the front of my house but my car is tucked back and out of sight.

A few times I have forgotten my phone and left it in the car. Bit it's still locked so it would be harder for them to get it.

I never leave anything inside my car whether it is day or night. As it would always lead to break in.Not because it is daylight that no one would not dare to do it but nowadays, even morning it is dangerous too. There is a saying, what the eyes don't see the hearts don't desire. I think it is quite true, when the person who don't see it, they won't have the thoughts to steal because he doesn't know that there are something precious there.

A thief would get nothing valuable from my car. I do not lock it in my driveway, mainly because if they broke in they would do more damage than if they got in and took whatever they wanted. Where I park is not easily accessible to the random person, either. Shoot, I do not own a car that cost more than 900 dollars. It is usally at least $600 to repair damage when someone breaks in. I guess the most valuable thing they would get would be some bottled water.

I know when my sister had a convertable she never locked it because it was too expensive to replace the top. She never kept valuables in the car, but would put them in the trunk. And you had to have the key to get in the trunk - no latch inside the car.

I never leave valuables in my car anytime when I am not in it! There are too many thieves and bad people out there who want to steal other people's hard earned stuff because they are too lazy to get jobs!
