Would you not like to read comments on the responses posted by you?

In a discussion a respondent wrote that – “I’ve seen that you have posted comments on the responses received, but please do not post any comments on my response, because I don’t have time to read your comments”. I was aghast and shocked to read the response and could not decide for a moment whether to post my comments on the response or not. In my entire stint at mylot, I have not come across such response/request. I was wondering if the respondent does not have the time to read comments, what is the fun of posting his/her response, did s/he go for it only for earning few cents. Incidentally, the response was good enough to post some comments and I did post my comments, despite s/he requested against it. My question to you is – Would you prefer to see comments on your responses or you do not want to receive and see comments on your responses, as you do not have time to read comments?

Hello!
For me every comment I received I won't have a day complete without reading all. Yes, I do always to read the comments, actually this is my first step every time I log in.
Before I make a new response to any discussion, first I comment back to some if not all of those comments for my responses.
To understand the feedback is the essence why there is a response. Hence for me here in discussion it's a cycle, started topic, then responses, then comments and comment back if possible! If this cycle is not complete then discussion is not successful!
Thanks

Hi zearah!
You are thinking on the same lines, on which I thought. Thanks for your suport. You know the spirit of a discussion. We all feel good when we see comments on our responses. It gives a kind of satisfaction that the user has read and understood our view point and has acknowledged the same in the form of his/her comments. You are right posting comments makes a discussion lively and interesting. I feel that that if one does not have time for reading comments then there is no use of participating in the discussions.
Many thanks for joining us with your interesting views.

Hi Deepak, how are you? I'm back...though not in full swing..lol
Ok, coming back to your question...of course, I LOVE getting comments for my responses...in fact, I am upset when I don't get any. I WANT to get comments and love the back and forth that happens in the discussions.
And I'm sure you know that:)

Hi Pola!
You are thinking on the same lines, on which I thought. Thanks for your support. I think some of the members are not aware about the difference between writing a blog and participating in a discussion or for that matter asking questions on some website. You and I both know that posting comments makes a discussion lively and interesting and we also do the same, it has become out habit.....LOL!
I feel that that if one does not have time for reading comments then there is no use of participating in the discussions.

The Only reason to write a post Is to get comments back. If no one responds , then it isn't a discussion, it is a monlogue! I can see when you want to rant about something but even then a good comment makes you feel like you are not alone. That is si strange. There is no time limit here. you can take yor time reading and responding to posts. I guess this person doesn;t get what My Lot is.

Hi Deepak,
Yes, I am too feeling little surprised to hear that you got those response but when it comes to my response I really feel good that someone commented on my response. And you know what I learn many things out of it. I love to read the comments. It has taught me a lot..people's view and ideas and at the same time you get to know if someone like your response or not. I too sometimes post my comments when i feel it is worth. And also when the response is really appreciable I just can't stop myself commenting..
Thanks,
Aira

Hi Aira!
I also felt surprised to read that 'response', therefore, I thouhgt it would be better to take my friends' opinion and this resulted in this discussion. Yes, I also feel good, when I read comments on my responses to others' discussions, like-wise I also feel that the fellow mylotters/friends also enjoy reading my comments on their response. I know about you that you do your best to post your comments and it is always fun to read your comments.
Many thanks for enriching the post.

Hi Deepak,
To be very honest I am so happy to get the notification in my mailbox if somebody commented on my response. Otherwise how can we call it as a discussion? I felt it is an appreciation of our work even if some people concluded with thanks. In my opinion comments are very necessary to keep our discussion lively. We are not pushing anybody to read the comments and add counter comments. So it is upto them whether to read or add more comments, but they don’t have the right to prevent you or other mylot members doing your/their duties. I felt the respondent act is a childish one.

Hi Sree!
It is always great fun to receive new notifications reg. comments. You are thinking on the same lines, on which I thought. You are right perhaps the respondent was not aware that we are paid for posting our comments also. And posting comments makes a discussion lively and interesting. I buy your argument that if one does not have time for reading comments he may not do so or may not go for counter-comments, it is upto him/her. But making such kind of request appears strange to me.
Many thanks for joining us with your interesting views.

Hello Deepak. What an odd response that was, and rather rude, in my opinion. Why would one even be here if they hadn't the time to carry on an actual discussion? A discussion, by nature, is two way, a back and forth conversation, not a test paper where we must mark only one answer. I love responses to comments and such!

It is good that you wish to comments of others on your responses. Without comments, our responses have no meaning and we just cannot come to know what the host thought about quality of our response.

I have priorities. Ill be honest here sometimes I ll be very interested to see comments on my responses if I have told something new or added some extra idea or I have somewhat disagreed with opinion of the owner of the discussion.Otherwise if I agree with discussion or there are better responses than what I have written I just read them and dont expect a comment on mine.

Hi Sonia!
Expecting comments on your response is something else. It is for the host to decide, whether he/she wants to post any comments on your response or not. But I hope that you would ask a user not to post his/her comments on your response, specially when your response deserves some comments.
Many thanks for joining us with your interesting views.

Hi dpk, that sounds odd and have not met with such standing instruction before. I find people here are getting bolder each day and going against normalcy. Discussions are meant to be debated and the more people coming in to give their responses and comments the more lively the discussions become. It cannot be considered a discussion if it stop at a response with no further comments. It is just as good as a question and answer kind of subject.

Oh my goodness.. To my shock, I could not believe that this is happened to you.
I am really sorry for that first of all.Everybody has the rights to share our views on any discussions started here.
Its alright that particular user itself stated you not to respond. But, I feel very odd about this. In my experience, I had given Best Response to the one whom i always have some sorts of disappointments in comments exchange.
This is the way, I act.
I always always most welcome healthy debating in Mylot & I wish, It must be here.
I always expect peoples views on my discussions. I know this will keep the discussion interest as well.
Finally, to talk about your incident, I believe that if u never hurt that user by anytime, then sure, that user had shed words like that because of "Selfishness". The worst thing which 1 human must not have with him.
Don't feel bad for the past incident!Have a nice time

I have never heard about a request like that. It is my impression that most members love comments on their responses. Personally I don't understand the thoughts behind a request like that - what is the point in responding to a discussion if you aren't interested in discussing the topic or interested in hearing other people's opinions or comments? I don't expect comments on every single response I write, and I think it is okay not to comment on every response, but I always appreciate a comment I would never see it as something negative!

It doesn't matter to me, because if they want to comment on my response, that is fine with me, as I will comment back if there is a question posed to me. I don't understand why someone would not want to read comments poster to their respomses. They might find that the comments being posted, could possibly have information in it that the person would want to comment back on. I think they forget, that they get paid for every comment that they do, even if it commenting on comments. It really meakes no sense to me why someone would want to be that way, as it helps them in their earning. If they don't have time to read comments, then maybe the don't have time for any discussions either. They need to make time, as that is what they are here for is to help others. That is what mylot is all about. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.
