I have three PC - company, my own laptop, and my family PC. I am try with Free Avast antivirus with firewall from Microsoft windows on my own laptop. It's work great but you must update everyday before open your explorer. On Company PC, They provided with Mcafee Internet security 8.5 that It's working very good. Mostly, all virus is can catch and clean. But On My Family PC, It is no antivirus or internet security because I have installed ubuntu linux 8.04.
If you are concern about cost, I would suggested to Avast antivirus if you still running on windows. Or you just changed totally to linux. Ubuntu Linux is stable, fast and free...

I think, I will try this free Avast anti virus and if does not work I will buy Mcafee. Both my PC as well as lap top run on Windows only, so it should be only Avast. Thanks for the response.

Are you using the anti-virus program for personal use or business use? I'm currently using Avast! Home edition which is a free antivirus program for personal use, which I think it's quite good. As for my office laptops, we are using McAfee anti-virus program, so I suppose McAfee is a good choice too.

I am using this PC for my personal use, and I also use a free software, which I presume is not a very powerful anti virus. Since my pen drive got infected when I had used it in a public Computer, I think it had infected my PC also. This virus showed up when I used the same pen drive in my office PC, but it has never showed up in my PC.

Norton is one of the most big antivirus software. A little to big sometimes. It made my computer crash during one of it's scans. Something dodgy, don't know what it was. But right now I use AVG. It is free to download and very effective. I'm using my computer for 5 years now using AVG. Never had any trouble. And it's not like I haven't god any chances of getting a virus because I do have them. I'm a regular downloader. I wouldn't be surprised if my computer would have crashed multiple times without AVG. Hope I helped you with this answer.

I first had AVG anti virus only, but my son thought that Norton is much better and he down loaded it. I do not have any big complaints about Norton, since my computer has not crashed till now. My only problem is, it did not show a virus file in my pen drive when I used it in home, whereas when I used it in my office, the system there which has a powerful anti virus, immediately identified the virus and killed it. That is main reason I am asking your advice on anti virus. Thanks for the response.

If you are interest in free version then go for AVG antivirus. but if you are willing to have strong security and going for the paid.. None other antivirus is better than Norton. I still can't believe that Norton is not able to protect your pen drive either. and be sure any of the antivirus you are using just update your antivirus till today as none antivirus will be useful if it's not updated..

Thanks for the response lovedude. My P.C. as well as my lap top, automatically updates the anti virus every time, when I switch on my system. That is the reason I would like to go in for a powerful anti virus. I think I should go in for a paid version.

Yes i agree with you on norton anti-virus...normally this is ok for a normal use but it is not so deep as many users can expect from a company worlwide famous in security as well!
So i think i had good experinces as regards anti-virus using avg, kaspersky and nod32 too...So normally avg have a ood protection against viruses and so if you upload your account, because you cen get also the free version,it will give you full protection even from malaware, rootkit and so on...so i found ti really good!!

As I have mentioned in my earlier posting, the virus in my pen drive, did not show up when in used it at home, but when I wanted to take a print out in my office, it immediately showed up. That is why I am not happy with norton anti virus. Let us see. I have got some good tips from our friends in my lot. Thanks for the response.

i'm a fan of AVG anti-virus, if i use any. I prefer to use none at all, i just search though my system killing proccesses and files that aren't supposed to be there.

My problem is I am not very good in computers and I may not recognize a virus files and to make matters worse, I may delete some important files which might be useful for the computer. That is why I am in search of a powerful anti virus. Thanks for the response.

Hi,
I think you should buy quick-heal anti-virus. I'm currently using it and quite satisfied with it so far. It is a very powerful anti-virus with DNA scan technology which is missing in other anti-virus. You can get it for around 800 rs for one year subscription .

Thanks for the response aditya. I will take a look on the quick-heal anti virus. I think it should be really powerful, since it is quite costly.

Hello rameshkumar57 this is checkmail and would like to inform you that you are using an efficient antivirus(Norton Anti-virus).But as you say that you feel it unsafe than there is a lot of range of anti-viruses ont he internet.According to me one of the best count is of Mac caffe anti-virus software it is more analytical antivirus software. It has all the properties similar to other antivirus and also advantage over some antiviruses.Bascially your pc needs protection right, so both Norton as well as Mac caffe antivirus are superb in protecting yours pc from virus. But It will be also your responsibility to command the software for certain activities like running antivirus checks on the system, asking before deleting any virus, denying or asking access to certain sites, etc.So don't get confused nearly all top rated antivirus are similar but with just a fractional difference. As I am using it, Mac caffe is the best till now, no virus problems ever.During using Norton I had a page opening problem started, which was of no use to me.
Still I advise you to go trugh other top rated antivirus software.
Mine is mac caffe.
GoodLuck

Thank you for your valuable advice checkmail. The main problem is I am not very good with computers,so I am not able to give the particular commands and I expect the anti virus, which I am going to install, to do the job, without my commands, like running anti virus checks and deleting them. Yes a lot of our My lotter friends has recommended Mac caffe, and I hope to install one shortly.
