Desktop or Laptop?

I have always wanted a laptop and have always had a desktop. My son has had a laptop for little over a year and, now that the novelty has worn off and school is out for the summer he does not use it very much. So one day I said what the heck, I could be using the laptop and so did. Just what I always wanted, kinda. But the more I use it the more it makes me mad! lol I don't like the finger thing, i want a mouse with the scrollee thing in the middle. And when I am typing I keep hitting the space bar by mistake and end up all messed up. I just cant seem to get the just of it.
So what do yall think? Anyone had similar experience?

Using the laptop is different from the desktop. If you are using the laptop on a flat surface, you can plug in a mouse and use it. I like both, for various things. I would like newer ones of each. My keys were different as well, but it was not a space bar, cannot remember exactly what the problem was.

I have never used a laptop. That would be very different for me to use. I have used a desktop for so long and I am so use to using a mouse. I'm not sure about a laptop. I have a friend that has one. She likes it pretty good.

Yeah , laptop has a different kind of touch. One needs to get used to it. I prefer using desktop too. I use that at home and also in my office. But, ofcourse , when travelling, I have to carry along a laptop. I have been using it for some years now. So, I am ok with it.
Have a nice day ! Enjoy laptop !!

I might try a laptop again someday if they make improvements to them.

Desktops are most of the time have to be changeable with keyboards and mice. These are with using ergonomic made keyboard and mice to give us comfort and not having that RSI syndrome that affects us with its regular daily use. I recommend that if you are not comfortable for that touch pad mouse for laptop, use a mice instead. Maybe the design of the keyboard for that laptop is much closer to the touch pad mice, try to disable the touch pad mice s that when ever you come to touch it, it won't cause you trouble on your work. One thing more, just have that regular break when working on any of these equipments. :)

You can disable the "touch pad" (the finger thing lol) and use a mouse by USB. The pad is sensitive so just brushing it with a part of your hand while typing will send you to never-never land. If you want to have both working the mouse and the touch pad but keep accidentally touching it; use a sticky pad piece of paper and cover the touch pad while typing - it works well and can be removed quickly and cleanly when you want to use it. I discovered it after my own mistakes numerous times. Hope this helps.

I too have always wanted a laptop! when I finally got one I was like, Whoa, this is awesome but like you said about the mouse, I actually went and bought one for like 20 buckes I think? Now there things I miss about the desktop like the 10 key and the ability to upgrade the hardware but if you can get past that and get used to the size difference and portability then they are great... Not to mention the price difference... lol

Not all laptops are all that portable, some break just because you moved it around to much.

I used to think I wanted a laptop but after reading your discussion it sounds like if I did get one after awhile I'd be tired of it and wanting to go back to my desktop. I've used one before and I couldn't get used to the finger thing either, I kept looking for the mouse, so maybe I'll keep my desktop..haha.

Right now i only have a desktop at home but i am dreaming of having my own laptop. I want to be able to get connected to the internet even if i am away from home. So, if ever i can i would get me a laptop, then i would always bring it with me when i go out of the house.

Hey,
I personally prefer to have a laptop instead of a desktop mainly because laptops are portable, and desktops are no way near portable (logically, they are pretty much glued to your desk). Make sure you have a good day, Happy Lotting!!

There are special mice that you can attach to your laptop, and thank goodness! I have had an ancient laptop for a couple of years now, but I still have not gotten used to the touch pad and key layout. I guess that's because I use my desktop more than the laptop, and only use the laptop when I was at school. I've since graduated and haven't set up the internet on my laptop, so I really don't have any reason to use it right now!

Having that be used that laptop for that long is good. And when it served us the purpose, then well in good. Just have it brought to a second hand store to sell it and you may be getting cash out of it that you can be using it, if really you will not be using it anymore.

That is a really good idea! I wonder if anyone will actually pay for a laptop made in the 1990s...

I think they would. But not much and it would have to be tested and make sure it works really good and doesn't have any issues

I like using laptop because I can bring it anywhere. And it doesn't take up a lot of space.

I've always had a laptop, as it was always an advantage being portable. I recently built a desktop PC for myself and since then I haven't used my laptop at all. However since I was so used to Laptops I was the opposite, in that I had to get a flat laptop style keyboard. It really comes down to what you NEED, a laptop is portable, but if you only ever use your computer at home then stick with a Desktop. They are cheaper and easier to upgrade.
P.S. just unplug the mouse from your desktop and plug it into the Laptop. It'll work fine

Well this was a very informative discussion, like you I have always used a Desk Top, but I have been wanting a Laptop for sometime now. It is good to see all the differences and how people feel about one or the other. I hope you adjust to the Lap Top, I figure it is something I will surly have to adjust too. Nice to know what to expect, again thaks for this informative discussion.

I do not like using laptops as they emit harmful EMF's (Electro Magnetic Frequencies) that cause cancer and the like!
If you are going to use a laptop, then it is advisable to use it on a table with a usb mouse and keyboard. (Never use a Laptop on your lap!!!)
We have tested the EMF's coming out of our laptop keyboard with a Gauss Meter and it was extremely high, but it was a very low reading when we measured the usb keyboard with the laptop pushed back to a safe distance on the table.
We have photo evidence of this test on our website. If you want the link, just message me and I will send it to you!
Hope this advice helps you. Have a great day :-)

I have both. I use the desktop more as a back-up. I have a mouse and a full size keyboard on my laptop using an USB. I can not type real well on the laptop keyboard because the keys are too close together. But the convenience of being able to work elsewhere with the laptop really makes a difference. I leave the keyboard at home but use the USB mouse all the time.

Well,I am a computer engineer. I prefer using the laptop. Why don't you adapt to use the laptop? At first, the keyboard of laptop is smaller than desktop, you make mistakes when you hit keyboard, this is normal; then you have already used desktop for a long time and adapted it. I think you can adapt laptop when you continue to use laptop in 1-2 weeks. You know, I have bought another model laptop recently. I took a week to adapt the touch pad of my new laptop. I didn't use mice for a week in order to adapt the touch pad, now everything is ok,I like my new laptop.

I hate laptops so much. My friend uses one for work but soon as he gets off he goes to the desktop. I can see the need in them just not good for me. I like having a keyboard I can can move and still look up to see the screen. About the only times I use a laptop the to help tune on a car. The other thing about desktops you can update the hardware so easy a laptop not so much.

I love using laptops. That is all I use at home now. It did take me awhile to get use to using the finger thing on the laptop. My laptop allows me to change how the laptop "mouse" is used.
You can also purchase a mini mouse for under $20 that connects to the laptop. The mini mouse can be bought at any electronic store or retailers like Best Buy or Target. The mini mouse is connected by the USB port and are easy to use just like a regular desktop mouse.
