So I just found out today I have type 2 diabetes. Great perfect just what I wanted not! This is the worst thing that could happen, now I have to give up all the stuff I really like and 'regulate my diet' I don't know how to regulate my diet! I don't know what to eat or what not to eat or anything like that.

well first of you need to watch the amount of sugar in your diet cut down on the fat etc. Your doctor should be able to suggest food for you to eat. Also many people live normal lives with it. DOnt be so dramatic it wont kill you unless you dont act.! just be healthy and you will be fine!

Hi I just wanted to say that to be upset or overwhelmed is a normal reaction to being diagnosed with a long term disease, you are not being over dramatic or stupid, you are reacting to some shocking news for you, and a change in your life, and when you learn a little more about how to manage it, it will make it alittle easier to feel like you can go on and deal with it. I struggled very much with anger at my diagnoses, and am going through a bit of a depressed stage right now, but I know this happens to a lot of people, so make sure you have someone around who can listen if you need a good rant...lol...sometimes it helps just to feel someone understands, without them giving advice. I know for me, sometimes I need someone giving practical tips, and sometimes I just need someone to hold my hand and go 'yeah, it sucks, doesn't it!' :0) Your Doctor should be able to take you through what to eat etc - actually most of what we should do is the sort of healthy diet that everyone should be eating anyway. My Doctor referred me to a Dietician who taught me to count carbs, etc and also let me talk about hoew I felt and solutions that worked practically in my life. I am on a message board called DearJanis.com which is brilliant, great people and support - and of course you can post here. Don't be alone. Take one day at a time. Now, if I can just take my own advice and get out of my mood....lol

You have to watch your sugar levels very closely. Watch for the soda, and sweets in general. Just try to eat very healthy foods, I know it is not fun but it can make a huge difference. Also, look into taking all natural products as well as what the doctor prescribes. A good product to help with diabetes is Transfer Factor Glucoach, it targets your body's glucose levels naturally. You can find it at www.abenitez.my4life.com

Diabetes is very common disease, especially type 2 diabetes. You are unnecessarily scared of it. what you should do is just treating carefully, compling with doctor's suggestion and strictly control your blood sugar. Now The most accepted therapy of diabetes to all doctor is integrated treatment combinning controlling your diet, doing exercise, monitoring your blood sugar and medicine treatment. As a patient, you should learn some knowledge to make yourself acquained with it, control your daily diet especially less sugar and fat and more vegetable, doing more excercise to speed up metabolization of blood sugar, monitor your blood sugar on time for adjusting your treatment timely and take medicine in compliance with your's prescription. Besides, my personal opinion, perseverence is also very importantm, as diabetes is uncurable to date. The above is my suggestion. hope it can do some favour for you. Take care of yourself and have a good life.

sorry to hear that but believe it or not its not the end of the world. knowledge is power and once you learn how to eat and what to eat you'll be fine and should be able to adapt well. try not to look at it as the foods you can no longer eat but think of it as a way to help preserve your life and health. because I have seen diabetes in people who have not taken are of them selves and its a sad sight to see because diabetes is really hard on the body when you don't do any thing about it. but i have seen that people who do take good care of themselves are living a healthy life. So don't beat yourself up get even with diabetes by gaining all the valuable knowledge you can and apply it to your diet and life. you'll be fine and look for support groups to help you too

Very sorry to hear about your medical trouble. No bad news from the doctor is ever easy to digest. Diabetes is a disease that can be controlled by watching your sugar intake, or your overall diet. I have heard of people who actually reversed it just by changing their lifestyle. How hope it all turns out well for you in the future. There are some great cookbooks published for diabetic cooking, and the recipes are great. Take care Angelgirl16

Well by now I guess your doctor has briefed you on what to eat and what not to. The very first thing that you should avoid now is eating sweets and all those goodies. Always monitor your blood sugar content and you would do okay if you could maintain your glucose level on the normal range then you are safe. In my case, I was able to do that and now I have maintained it there for the past several months they even recommended to stop my medication and so far even without the medication my sugar has been normal. So my doctor advice me to still monitor my sugar every now and then and from there he would recommend what to do next. One thing you should do is to follow what your doctor would advice you to eat, do and more especially with the medication that they will give you. I guess that is the things you should just watch out. One good thing having this is you become conscious about your well being.
