Windows 7 OS

I have just started running the Windows 7 OS on my Laptop (not my main computer) to see what it is like. So far it seems a lot more responive than Vista but is just as GUI. To set it up the way I like is more involved than XP, which I still prefer, but I want to know how it will work on a day to day/normal use basis. Anyone got any good tips and tricks for 7 yet? Maybe to retro fit it with an XP skin or something. I like to run my computers very lean so in that respect it beats Vista hands down since it doesn't force you to load a bunch of programs you don't need. I would still prefer to have more control though.

Windows is never getting inside this house! It is just world's biggest bug collection! Macintosh isn't getting in either. I want to do whatever I want with my computer, I don't want some stupid operating system telling me what the restrictions are of my machine. Long live linux! The operating system that actually works fine...

I've tried Ubuntu, but the navigation was confusing. I do like the idea of an OS that is just there as a background program and doesn't try to do everything for you. What version do you use?

Hey, No I have not personally installed Windows 7 on my computer, sadly I am stuck with Windows Vista. You say that Windows XP is still better than 7, which may be true. But I would say that Windows 7 is still better than Vista. Make sure you have a good day, Happy Lotting!!

Hi, friend. What i have come to love about you is that you have marked a best response. Very few mylotters do that. But, i think one should always mark the best response because if a person is really working hard to help you, why not give him/her the credit. I would like to add you as my friend. Thanks very much for marking me as the best responder.

Hi, friend. I have also tried Windows 7. You are right it looks more responsive than Vista. There are some new features like the always orthodox Ms -paint has changed, the accessories are given java look and feel, the different command prompts. But, let me tell you there is an illusion. I tried a gadget named All CPU Meter on vista and windows 7. My startup RAM usage were 27% on vista (i have got too many programs running) and about 35% on Windows7 (with a little amount of programs installed). So, there are more unneeded programs in windows7 than in vista. What makes Windows7 more responsive is the low CPU usage due to many threads running at a time (more tasks are loaded in RAM but all have different execution threads). So, it is good but dangerous. Too many threads increase chances of a deadlock or an unexpected shutdown due to memory dump if there is a slightest mismanagement of threads (well, they are experts in the field and this all is just a chance not necessary). But, Windows 7 deserves a try as it is a good improvement.

I think It's good with 1GB of ram nVidia GeForce 9400 GT Intel D945GCL M/B. Quick, good looking GUI. Jam packed features! But I'll complain that Internet Explorer 8 is really NON-STANDARDS compliant most pages, even live.com don't render correctly!
