I have a challenge to find a teatime recipe for a vegetarian friend who will not eat eggs or dairy either..I wondered about something like scones, biscuits, or similar nibbles..he has hinted that he can eat pastry made with oil..so oil is an option..I know you can get vegetarian margarine but that takes the fun out of the challenge!! any ideas anyone?

Being vegetarian is really healthy but I think its really hard especially if you used to eat meat before.
I think your friend could go on steamed foods. Maybe grilled. I have been using peanut oil. I think your friend could use that also.

Peanut oil would taste lovely..I wonder if it would taste nice in a pie crust? Perhaps with rhubarb and apple as the filling...i think I should try it :)

Scones are out, since they typically use eggs. How about a chocolate cake? There is a chocolate cake recipe called "wacky cake" that doesn't contain any milk, eggs, butter, or anything else animal. Here's an example of this recipe:

You can even make wacky cake in a bundt pan or other fancy pan to make it fancy. Since frosting also tends to contain milk and butter, you could skip it and top the cake with powdered sugar, or maybe a fruit sauce.

Well what he actually is vegan, which is nothing that comes from an animal. i.e. honey, milk, eggs, etc. I would suggest this - http://www.chooseveg.com/vegan-dessert-recipes.asp site. It's all vegan. They also have meals and stuff like that. Publix has a vegan/vegetarian 'section' in both the freezer, and produce areas. I would suggest hitting those places up to get milk and egg replacements.
Hope this helped!
