I ran across an article on The Register that struck me as funny. It was about a product called Happy Egg, which is simply pre-boiled and packaged boiled eggs. My first thought was, Have we grown so lazy that we can no longer take a few minutes to boil our own eggs? Seriously though, I just happen to know a couple of people who can't boil a decent egg.A couple of months ago I introduced my oldest daughter to the proper way to boil a perfect egg. She was surprised at how simple the idea was. Do you know how to boil a perfect egg?

Wow, that is sad..Though I did have to teach my husband how to boil the perfect egg, it really is too simple. I haven't seen anything like that, but I wouldn't buy it if I did..

I would hesitate, carmelanirel, only based on the fact that eggs are so often the source of salmonella.

I did not know that they do that now. You are right though, I wonder why people attend to think that everything needs to be pre made. Eggs are the easiest food to make. It takes less then 12 minutes to make. I mean all you have to do is let the eggs sit in the water till it boils and then turn off the heat and let the eggs sit 10-12 minutes. Then you got the perfect boiled eggs that cost you maybe 50 cents for 3 instead of paying who knows how much for just what 2 eggs. I wonder whats next pre cooked meatloaf or even chicken. I like to make my own food because then I know what and how I want it made.

You are right on all counts, Seppy!Boiling an egg is probably one of the simplest cooking techniques there is. BTW, I use the same method as you.

That is cool that there are other people that use the same method. Thanks for the best response.

I'm sure the packaged kind will come in handy for many people, stephcjh, but one really should learn how to boil an egg if they don't already know how.

I don't know about the egg being boiled perfectly, it's a boiled egg, put it in a pan with cold water bring to boil and either boil to soft or hard boil stage. Or bring the water to boil and then turn it off and let the egg sit in the water 10 minutes. I see packaged boiled eggs all the time, I assume that they are for snacks or to put in lunches. Yes I am sure it would be a lot cheaper to just boil a dozen and have them for when ever you need them.

When I boil eggs, bdugas, I usually will boil a few at a time to have on hand for salads, etc. They will keep very well in the fridge for up to a week.

I have't boiled an egg myself. But I have seen my mother did that.It is easy and takes no more than ten minutes. But I think someone may have little time to boil eggs themslves, they can buy the the product you referred. It is more convenient.

Convenience is not a priority, menghuanshou, when it comes to the food I eat. If we're going to be in the habit of eating food we should at least try to learn the basics of preparing it.

This sounds funny to me. I like my boiled eggs hot. I'm not sure about having them already boiled that seems strange and funny also. Yeah I was taught when I was about 12 I think how to boil eggs. Over 20 years ago. I have a friend that knows hardly anything about cooking because her parents were always gone a lot at night so they ate out a lot. I don't think I could live like that myself.

I constantly tease my grandchildren about eating out so much, Shaun, because they were not raised like that. It seems that nowadays everyone wants everything instantly. It's such a shame.

Yes, I can believe people are either too lazy to boil eggs or some who work 2 to 3 jobs just don't have the time.(4 to 5 minutes) Then there are very few who just don't know how. We are looking for the fastest ways to do everything. Our ancestors had more time to relax than we do. And we have all the help they didn't. I think the perfect boiled egg is one that has no coloring around the yoke when done. This is done by putting them in warm water, brought to a boil, then heat turned off and let sit for 2 to 3 minutes, then placed in cold water. Tha cold water makes them easy to take the shell off.

Yikes I never heard of pre-boiled eggs before, but I guess it's geared for the same type of people who boil their water for tea or coffee in a microwave rather than the few minutes on a stove.
Yep--been boiling the perfect egg for decades especially when I want to make an egg salad, or deviled eggs

I have to plead guilty to using the microwave to boil water for tea, pyewacket, but I did used to boil it on the stove.

I sure do. I even wrote an article on how to do it on another site on line. I have been boiling eggs for years. It is quite funny that people would by boiled eggs. It really can not be simpler to do it at home. I see the pre-boiled ones at hotels that have breakfast a lot though, I guess in that case it is OK to have pre-broiled eggs. They are not as good as ones done at home though.

It is my humble opinion, ladym33, that nothing we buy that's prepackaged can hold a candle to the real thing.

Eggs are a staple protein for me as I do not consume much meat by choice. I can boil perfect egg... anyway you want it! However, I am livng in a facility for now where I do not have access to a stove and I can really miss a good boiled egg! I even miss deviled eggs so badly!! So... when I saw the prepackaged boiled eggs, I grabbed them, brought them back and made myself the deviled eggs I had been craving! So... yes.. too many are lazy any more... but I appreciate lazy people right now since because of them I fed my cravings!!!!

Being mindful of your situation, macdingolinger, I think you are justified in buying your pre-boiled eggs.

I saw an article in a newspaper about this, and I too thought how lazy it is. Also it will be at a stupidly inflated price so it will probably cost more then a box of a dozen eggs. I know that we now live in a world where everyone wants everything instantly but pre boiled eggs is taking it too far.

Yes indeed, kelly! If we can't take a few minutes to boil an egg we need to seriously slow down!

Convenience foods are so popular now days. I use some myself. But I had never heard of these. I hardly ever boil eggs now. They don't agree with me too well now, and my hubby doesn't care for boiled or deviled eggs. I don't know if mine would qualify as 'perfect', but I get the job done when I want one. By the way, what does define the perfect way to boil an egg anyhow?

The secret to the success of boiling the perfect egg, wkylady, is that you don't actually boil the egg. Once it comes to a boil you have to turn off the heat, cover and let stand for about 15 minutes.
