I am playing guitar for almost a year now but this is cause i used to get really attracted to all sorts of musical instruments.
My point is that I have learned to play guitar by myself just by watching video lessons on the internet and then learning and playing my favorite songs in addition to some practices i've found on the internet.
So Does this mean that anyone can be a guitar player or it needs certain types of people?.

I also learned to play guitar by myself when I was 12. My dad can play too but most of the time he's busy so I just tried to make it on my own. But some people I know even though they have guitars at home and really wanted to learn couldn't really learn at all. I believe not all people are blessed with such talent even though they want to have it. However, If any one really wants something and really is determined to have it, with all his power, the thing that he wants can be possible to achieve.

Although you see a lot more guitars on open mic sessions than any other instrument, I don't think it's any easier than any other instrument - just more portable.
Music takes tenacity and time to practice - it comes from within. So give yourself a pat on the back - you've done something many of us would love to be able to do, but gave up on.

yes, anyone can play the guitar if he just have enough interest, motivation and inspiration to go on with learning how to play it. i learned to play the guitar when i was only 12 years old. i spent one summer vacation just learning, playing and practicing my favorite songs. during my high school days, i volunteered to play the guitar for our choir accompaniment. of course, there were many of us youngsters who played the guitar, so it was just a group activity that we enjoyed doing together. at present, i'm so busy with my family and work that i rarely have enough time for my guitar.
i also knew of someone who sings off-key but can really play the guitar well. he practiced everyday and learned, of course, through the internet and through music books, which my 14-year-old daughter also did.
i have a student who suggested a guitar club for anyone in our class or school who is interested in playing the guitar, and there were many who expressed interest in joining.

Anyone can learn. I like you taught myself via internet lessons, tablature, and other things. With the internet you can basically do anything. You used to have to get a music teacher and what not, but you can learn basic guitar skills to intense music theory via the internet. Its pretty awsome. However! You do need some seriousness if you expect to last through the early stages of learning.

I believe there are generally 2 types of musicians. Those who easily aquire musical skills, and those who are motivated enough to work at aquiring them, and you can get enough experience from listening to covers (or famous songs) to be able to imagine original music, or from learning music theory or things like that.

Anyone can play the guitar if they have the patience and will to learn. It does help if you are a musically inclined person though. I have been playing for about 5 years and I taught myself the same way you have, through the internet and playing my favorite songs.

That means you have the special gift and talent in music. For me, I won't be able to play a musical instrument without a teacher. I tried with a harp before, but no success at all.
Enjoy music !

I don't think it takes a certain type of person to play the guitar, I have several friends that do. However I think it takes a certain type of person to create music. It's one thing to learn how to play some popular song on the guitar, it's completely different to try to write your own music at the same level that you hear on the radio.
