I just saw the movie 'Nosferatu' for the first time for free on the Internet! I'm not really a silent movie fan, but, I thought for posterities sake that I'd see the movie and I found it quite interesting, actually! The scariest scene in the movie for me is when the crewman was in the hold of the ship and saw Nosferatu rising from his coffin. Scary! The organ music was quite tiresome after awhile. LOL! What I especially liked about the movie was the fact that vampires were not portrayed as handsome and charming or beautiful and sensual. They are portrayed as the ugly, evil creatures that they really are. How in the world did that ever change? Mind you, I do love a handsome and charming vampire. It can be quite sexy, but, that isn't the reality. Not that I believe in vampires.............*wink**wink* How do you feel about vampires and what did you think about 'Nosferatu' specifically? I'm really interested in your opinions on this. Also, would you say that 'Nosferatu' was among the first movies that gave a glimpse into the life of vampires? If you know of an earlier example I would love to know so I could check it out myself! Let's just say I'm researching........ LOL! Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't seen Nosferatu yet. Got a copy of the movie but it didn't work. I've seen a fictional movie about filming Nosferatu called "Shadow of a vampire". In the movie they hired a real vampire to play Count Orlok. There are many recreated scenes from Nosferatu and how they film them so you might like it. By the way, I'm reading Bram Stoker's Dracula right now

Hello Bionicman! It sounds like 'Shadow of a Vampire' is a kind of a documentary? I love documentaries and will definitely check it out! Thanks for your response! Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

Shadow of a Vampire is a wonderful film and really worth seeing. It is very clever taking the angle that Count Orlok was really a vampire, so it is an original idea and they do it well. It isn't a documentary, it's a fictional film, but the backdrop is the filming of Nosferatu and the actors and sets look very like the original.

I haven't seen that movie but I'll be looking for it now. I have always thought and seen movies depicting vampires as "monster" type creatures too. One movie that I remember was From Dusk until Dawn...it depicted them as I would have imagined. Then there was that movie that changed it for me...Interview with a Vampire...I have always had a weakness for Brad Pitt..lol..he made a very nice vampire.

I've never seen the entire Nosferatu film before, but I've seen snippets of it. The vampire genre has changed considerably since that movie was released (1922) and there's been so many different spins from heroism to romanticism! If you enjoy vampires, you might like these trivia questions you can access from this link: http://www.fanpop.com/spots/vampires/quiz/show/13882 One of my favourite vampire movies is definitely Bram Stoker's Dracula as it remained very true to the original story and didn't "hollywood" things up too much. I wouldn't consider myself to be a huge vampire fan overall, but I do enjoy movies with them in it and I've also just finished reading the 4 books in the Twilight series.

The autoher of the Twilight books is Stephenie Meyer. The series starts with Twilight, then follows on with New Moon, Eclipse and finishes with Breaking Dawn. They really are a wonderful read, so if you love the vampire genre, I hope you get to read them because the author's taken an interesting angle.

I love that movie! I'm a fan of silent movies and Nosferatu was shown here at a very old theater that's being renovated. A local band wrote and performed a new score that was perfect for the movie. I can't think of any other vampire movies that that portray them as Nosferatu did--it's German, you know. Another German silent movie, "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" (1920) is really bizarre and uses expressionist art for the background, lending it a very stark and spooky air. Turner Movie Classics (TCM) is a great channel if you want to learn more about the silents. They have Silent Sundays every week where they show a silent film, usually late at night. I'm glad you enjoyed Nosferatu. Did you ever see Salem's Lot? The vampire in that movie (and the Stephen King book) was a lot like Nosferatu. I don't know why vampires became romanticized eventually. Did you ever see Dark Shadows, the daytime soap opera about a vampire and a host of other supernatural creatures? Great stuff.

You're response has really excited me and you've given me a lot of great information! I love TCM too! The host (the older guy) is so great for that channel. I love the background info he gives on each movie. Very interesting. The only thing I don't like about that channel is..........no commercials! If I have to go to the bathroom or make myself a snack or something I usually end up missing a portion of the movie! LOL! I'm definitely going to check into the two movies you mentioned. Yes, I did watch Dark Shadows way back when. Very gothic. I wish they would show the originals! Thanks so much for your response, dragon! Have a great day and an even better one tomorrow! Hi sketch! You should go see it when you get the chance. If you like vampires see it. It's a silent film and I'm not crazy about silent films, but, I found this one to be pretty good! Thanks for responding! Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

I have not watched the whole movie but I do have to say that the vampire in Nosferatu looks much more freaky than any of his contemporaries. I will have to check it out in its entirety at some point.

That's exactly what I thought........he definitely is the freakiest looking vampire I've ever seen. We are so used to how they are portrayed nowadays. If I remember correctly the movie is only 1 hour and 15 minutes long. Check it out in it's entirety when you have the time. Thank you for your response and have a great day! I love the film Nosferatu and own it on DVD. It was the first Dracula film but they couldn't use the name Dracula because of copyright reasons, so that honour went to Bela Lugosi's Dracula film in the 1930s. I love both films. Dracula is beautifully stylish and classy looking. Nosferatu is more arty perhaps, but scarier as (like you say) the vampire there is ugly and rat-like, whereas Lugosi's Dracula is suave and handsome.
