What is wrong with Freddie Aguilar

Was watching TV Patrol. Just learned that Freddie Aquilar had criticized Charice, Arnel Pineda and even, Gary Valenciano for copying Michael Jackson. The worst is that he even compared them to a monkey. Being nationalistic doesn't give him the right to malign his co-Filipinos singing songs of foreign artists. I think that it was ungentlemanly of him to have done that something like that. What could have brought him to say that? Envy? Well.....

Yes. Number one is ENVY. Secondly, he's now out of limelight he did this to attract medias attention, he was making an issue for his own credit...he's nothing, he's not worth to be the subject of popularity...why not minding his own business....

You are right. I think he should have acted his. He was once at the peak of his career during "Anak" days. Now, let the younger generation have their share of the limelight. Thanks for your response.

I did not see the news about Ka Freddie saying not-so-nice comments, so I can't react to that. He really said that?oh that's frustrating, knowing his reputation as a respected singer. But of course we have to hear his side first what he meant in saying on those things.

Just imagine he reacted, commented Arnel Pineda and Chrice Pengpengco English songs, which are familiarized by journey and celine dion respectively.. F. Aguilar criticizing them by comparing them like "monkey" mimicking some other foreign songs..how will you comment on this...same Filipino saying " like monkeys " to his countrymen? Craziness...

What he said was, that Charice singing English songs on Oprah, Arnel Pineda, Journey lead vocalist and Gary Valenciano doing Michael Jackson's dance moves, all the more confirmed what Mariah Carey had said before that Filipinos are Monkeys. Inggit lang talaga siya. By the way, his ANAK was translated to 53 languages, so that other countries will understand the song. Don't you think it is weird?

You know what, you said the same thing which my father has just said. It only pointed to one thing, ENVY.

Yeah, he's envious. He's a typical crab who wouldn't let any fellow Pinoys become successful. He is not even being logical. How can you sing a Filipino song on Oprah where everybody seems American. He should think of the situation too. Gary V, well, Michael Jackson is his influence in music so we really couldn't blame him for having similar moves. The best thing he should do is to support, at least morally. Not to give names like monkeys. He's being immature.

That is the sad part when you cannot handle well the emotion, envy. All his actions had proven only one thing, envy.

He is already forgotten, and only making an issue to be noticed again by the public.

I say amen to that. It is so sad the people would resort to something like this just to be talked about. I think that he has forgotten that he is stepping on somebody else's toes.

I agree with you! Freddie Aguilar even said that charice should sing a filipino song during her guesting in Oprah and on Celine's concert. How would charise sing a tagalog song in a country where nobody will understand? except for the filipinos watching her that time. Its a simple logic. Singing foreign music doesn't mean you dont love your country and your not proud of it. He should at least be thankful that Charice and other artist brought up the name of our country and we Filipino's have been known again as talented artist.

Yes you are right. I agree with you totally. He should be proud that Filipino singers like Charice, Arnel and Gary are making names not just for themselves but also for the Philippines. They make us proud. Unfortunately, some Filipinos still have that crab mentality.

In fairness to Charice, she had earlier mentioned in one of her interviews that she wanted the inclusion of a Tagalog song in her international album. At this time, we don't know if this inclusion will happen. Arnel Pineda was hired to sing Journey songs and not Tagalog songs, OK? Who, in his right senses, would not grab that opportunity rather than remain a starving singer in the Philippines? The fact that Freddie Aguilar sings Tagalog songs does not, in any way, make him an authority to judge on the issue of a singer's nationalism in terms of the song language preference to be performed before a big foreign audience that watch Charice and Arnel Pineda. Just how far any Filipino can be labelled as unggoy or gaya-gaya entails a lot of factors to consider. Ka Freddie, do you consider me unggoy for not expressing myself in Tagalog like you? Look at your signature hat and the brand of your guitar. You sing OPM in your Western gear. I would have more respect for your "wise" judgment with your love of nationalism had you performed all these years by wearing truly Filipino attire - with bakya, guitar made in Cebu and a hat that Filipino farmers use.

While, most people seem to be against Freddie's comments, I can't think that he did it for the purpose of being a 'crab' or for his own gain. I think that those singers shouldn't mimick other artists so much. They should sing in Tagalog, or whatever their language may be to promote their country, or just make original English songs. So what if someone sings a Tagalog song in America? On Oprah even. You don't need to know the words of a song for it to be beautiful and to show the beauty of the country from which it came. Perhaps the monkey comment was a bit much(too much), but he has his points. English should never be placed in front of Tagalog or another Philippines language in terms of importance. Only a non-Filipino would think such a thing.

Good for you if you can still love a music even without understanding them. Unfortunately, that's not the cause to most people. I may listen to a line or two of Chinese or Spanish lyrics but not the whole song (except maybe for the Voltes V theme song ). Singing an English song does not necessarily mean English is more important than Filipino. But in Charice's case, the audience were anticipating her to sing Celine or Mariah songs. So why would Charice song a Kundiman song? And the issue of originality? My gosh! In this world, almost everything is being recycled. Some of Celine's popular songs are revivals. So are Whitney's and Mariah's. Others may say that those artist did not copy the originals - and that's the reality in singing. No one can exactly copy an original.
