I was determined I wasn't going to give up nor give in.
I fought tooth and nail with my bathtub drain. Thank God I live alone, because my tub was draining very slow, it took at least 45 minutes to an hour for the water to drain when I used it for bathing or showering. This last for 2 days. I did every thing but called a plumber. I really couldn't afford to pay the plumber. I was praying that it didn't come to that.
Some of the things I use to get the water to drain was a plunger, I boiled some vinegar poured it down the drain, I did everything I could think of. Then on the last day I went to the store and brought some "GOOD OL" DRAINO" poured it down the drain let it stand for awhile then used the plunger again and whamo the water went rushing out. My drain is now working like magic.
Have you ever just stuck to something and was determined not to give up and your hard work and persistence paid off?

Definitely! I'm very stubborn like that most of the time. LOL
I found something that works great, at least for sink drains. It's a plastic thing, about a foot long with sharp "teeth" on it. You stick it down the drain and pull it out. It's as simple as that and it brings hair and all kinds of gunk out with it. Of course, it's kinda gross, but you don't need chemicals and you never "run out" of it! Works a lot faster, too. After I use that, I just pour boiling water down the drain to get rid of any oils or whatever are still in the drain. I think it works on all drains, not just sink drains, although I've never had to use it in the bathtub drain.
I got it at WalMart, where they keep the plumbing supplies. It's cheap, too, much cheaper than Draino.
But, for your perseverance, you get a thumbs up! You have every right to feel proud of your accomplishment!

Eh, not too bad, I guess. I've had heart palpitations for a week and yesterday they got so bad I thought about going to the ER but my heart rate wasn't too bad and my BP was good, so I drank some apple juice, orange juice and ate a banana (thinking it may be a need for potassium because my potassium level is usually low or borderline). I actually feel quite a lot better today. Only a few palpitations instead of non-stop like they were. I've got to remember to stop forgetting to eat my daily banana or orange!
Other than that and the cuts on my hand from that mean-tempered blade of grass, I'm doing pretty good... usual aches and pains but nothing to really complain about. I'm still waiting to hear from Social Security about my disability, though.
I got a small check from them for mileage reimbursement for that psyche exam they made me go to and also, just today, got some money in my child support account! Miracles will never cease! LOL I think my ex is FINALLY realizing that this is going to follow him forever until he pays everything he owes.
Anyway, that's money from two sources that I didn't think I'd be getting. Since things usually come in threes, I'm hoping that the third chunk of money will be my disability check. We shall see, huh?
Oh, by the way, my potatoes are doing GREAT; this last planting, anyway. I actually think I'll be getting some purple, blue and red potatoes!!! You'll be the first I'll tell when they're harvested cuz I've promised you some and I plan to keep that promise! And don't worry... it looks like I'll have a ton of them!

Good for you!! You were able to save some money big time. I like to work on things until I have no other choice but to call for service. It's a happy day when we can fix things ourselves - hooray!

GOOD FOR YOU!!! I know I have had that attitude before, and it does pay off in the long run. It can be aggravating and frustrating in the beginning but once you get what you want accomplished, it pays off. I don't remember what I have had that attitude with, I just know I have.

i THINK THAT'S CALLED HARDHEADINESS & YES I KNOW ALL ABOUT BEING THAT WAY. I am glad u have it going. I hate plumbing problems.I have always had trouble here & it's on the city so u know how that goes. I buy THRIFT & EVERY MONTH OR SO I PUT IT DOWN MY DRAINS WHETHER I am having any trouble or not . I was having to have a plumber right often & that is soo expensive. That is waht he always used to unstop the drain & a friend of mine told me where u could buy it so that's what i do now . The place i buy it sells plumbing supplies so u might want to check it out. I find it to work alot better than drano & i think using it before u have a problem is the clue.

I know I have, but I just do not remember what. As far as plumbing goes, we finally had to remove a tree. We did try stuff for months on end and it never worked to really clean and clear the drain. Not homemade solutions and not commercial solutions. We did persist, though, for quite awhile.

Yes, I've gone through situations like this and am still going through. When we are drained of finances, determination stands first. And ' good old Draino', it always works for me.

I have the same problem with my bathtub drain. The apartment manager keeps saying she will get the handyman to fix it, but he hasn't fixed it. She needs to call the plumber. I don't know if she will. But maybe I'll be inspired by you and try to fix it myself. Who knows, it might work. lol

Hi, Chevee!
I've done similar things many times. I just can't pay for things I can do myself. There's also quite a wonderful sense of accomplishment when the problem's solved.
Congrats!

what also works for sinks is that long narrow metal stem with little spikes things that u put down the sink and pull. it does a good job of unclogging sings. i forgot what it is called.

Yes!! I live in a rental house and the porch light switch never worked right. The landlord sent someone 2x to try and fix it and it would work for a few days and then nothing. It's the switch to the front porch so kinda important. Went to Home Depot and talked to the electrical dept guy and he gave me some hints on reclamping the wires and not too loose. Turned the breaker box off so the porch light wouldn't zap me to heck. And checked the wires...low and hehold they were very loose which explains why it would work for abit and then kaput. Changed out the caps after retwisting them into place and now 3 months later, got a light that works and I have NO electrical backround.
GOOD for you for your Tenacity - it does pay off!! And isn't the sense of simple accomplishment nice too??
