Let us start telling ghost stories here. It would be nice to know what are the stories you've heard or experienced. I'm from Malaysia and being from a small town. There were lots of stories being told to us.
Let me start of with one of my personal experience. Yes.. My own experience.
This happens when I was young about 9years old. At that time, I'm a very shy and scary cat person. Almost every night, I'd hear sounds coming from my kitchen. Having heard so many of stories about ghosts coming out at night to roam around, I was stiffen by those sounds.
Not sure why, there was twice, I was sleeping, I can sense that something was on top of me. I wanted to move, but I can't. It was like I was tied up. I can't even shout. It was a scary moment for me. All I know later was I woke up shivering.
Scary.. Please do share about your encounter with supernatural being.

Ghost stories? Maybe it is better to have this discussion in the Paranormal interest. Whatever, welcome to myLot.
I have many personal encounters ever since I was a child. A few were later proven to be mere shadows, but most were real. Sometimes they showed themselves, sometimes there was a smell, at other times there were just sounds, and in several cases there was actual contact.
Many people misunderstood sleep paralysis and a real disturbance. I had several sleep paralysis episodes, but once it was clear something was on my chest. I cried out the name of God several times before it went away.
I became a ghost hunter in 2003, because they were disturbing my fifth offspring. To date, I had more than 20 skirmishes with them. It was not fun.

I know sleep paralysis is explainable - but a lot of things are not. I lived in a haunted house, and it almost destroyed me. I used to sense something entering my room, then it would "enter" my body and kinda fill me up, thru' every pore of my skin. I've since discovered this is what clairvoyants experience - except they can control it, I can't.
Worst of all though, was when I started feeling a "thing" on my chest with chattering scales. My ex was into the paranormal. He "saw" it one night and said the right "words" to send it packing. He described it as a big yellowish lobster thing, an entity of some kind.
Now, say what you like about dissing the paranormal and I agree, most things are explainable - even this. But neither of us, to this day, can explain the unearthly SCREECH that came from the corner of our room. We had no animals or birds in the house, nothing to make that noise.
Whenever I start to 'debunk' other people's experiences, I think of that scream, and I shiver.

Most probably you are a sensitive. Ever thought of sharpening your skills, so that you can have at least some control over the situation? One in four is a sensitive, or have psychic abilities, while one in twenty five have strong, innate potential.
I can relate to your experience of hearing screeches when there was nothin there. I believe whatever it may be was trying to scare you.
There are people who do not believe in ghosts because they have never seen one. They should consider themselves lucky. I have come to the point of feeling tired of seeing, hearing, smelling, and sensing them.

Everyone have their own life-force. It's depends on your life-force whether you can see/hear or not see/hear a ghost.
Also the way the house was built, and how the designed and decoration in the house might also will invite those creature come in.
This world is still full of mysteries.
Be prepare, you might see thing worst than a ghost.

I'd say the "Thing" that spent weeks working on me (see my comments above) was definitely worse than any ghost. I'm not scared of ghosts - but had I succumbed to that force I dread to think where it would have taken me. To Hell, I expect.

Great story there...
I believe in the paranormal too but I try my best not to be scared of them for I would only want to fear God.
As for ghost stories, I have not encountered on a 1 to 1 sight, but I've heard sounds a lot of times. When I was lying down on my bed one night, right at around 12:00 AM, I heard knocks in the front door. Was kind of queer, but I dreamily thought someone might be coming to tell my family something.
But as soon as I realized that, the thought dawned on me that it was surreal. Like midnight, and knocks on the door? And the knocks were only 3 times then it stopped. Very weird there, really. Sent me a bit of goosebumps when I thought of the possibility of that thing..

There is actually a scientific explanation to that fenomenon that you've encountered. I read it somewhere before but kinda forgot bout it. I've experienced it several times in college too. And when I woke up, I saw bruises.
Several weeks ago, I experienced that again, but when I woke up, I saw my husband on top of ME! LOL.. wink wink!

This encounter of being pressed by something on top while sleeping,
can't move, can't scream is a very common experience by many. I
used to asked some friends about this, and many of them can relate
to this encounters. It is so scary and so helpless at that point
of time..
There is two possible answer to this occurrence :
1) there could be unknown spirit who are disturbing. Some old people
would said that this is "bed / wood spirit" that are not happy
to see some one slept on it. Sort of like "warning".
2) scientific perspective : I read somewhere that actually it got
something to do with blood flow. The heart can't pump the blood
due to some reason...and thus it affect the overall system..so
this feeling will make you a need to be awake, asking for help!
In addition : there is some advise on sleeping position. Do not put your
two hands / fold your hands on your chest while you are sleeping on your back.
Don't sleep on your left side because you are putting pressure on your heart.
Sleep on your right ie. facing to the right and your heart will be at the top. Heart is positioned on the left of our chest. I hope the information are accurate..
just for sharing.

I used to live with my grandparents. When I turned 18, I started staying out really late at night. One night, I came home at about 4 o'clock in the morning. My grandma woke up and came out of her room while I was taking off my coat and shoes. She told me that she thought I was already home, because around 2:30 am she had heard the door open and close and sounds like someone taking their shoes off. I thought it was really weird. The next night I was home earlier, but I was still awake really late on the computer. At about 2:30, I heard the door open and close, and noises like someone taking off the coat and shoes. So I went down to investigate, and my grandma came out of the room too and asked if I had opened the door. The same thing happened 3 or 4 nights in a row, and 2:30 in the morning every time. Other weird stuff happened in the house, too. I heard footsteps in the hall outside my bedroom, and I would come home and find lights on in my room that I knew for certain I had turned off. At night, sometimes the upstairs part of the house would shake and the things sitting on my shelves would rattle. At first I thought it was the furnace, but it happened when the furnace wasn't on. I never did figure out what was going on.
