When you feel sad or depressed you will eat more or less?

I tend don t eat, i can t eat when i am depress, but i know a lot of people who eat much more when they have a problem, when are sad, or something don t work good.
They find happiness in refrigerator, where they eat and eat, in special in the night, when no body see them. There is the paradise, in refrigerator...sandwiches, a tone of ice cream, many sweets in general.
When something go wrong with me, just i can t eat, food don t have any taste for me, and i can t eat , i just drink a lot of water.
When you are depressed what make you to feel better? Food or something else?

Me too, i don t consider that food can make me happy, i eat to live, not live to eat, if i can t eat when i am sad, this is

When I feel depressed,I don't either eat more or eat less,Just drinking a lot.Ethanol will let me forget all annoyance.

A good topic to discuss on
As according to me when im depressed or very much worried about things, at such time it does not affect appetite because if i do not eat properly my health condition goes down and i will not be able to work. So even though im depressed or tensed i have my food.
The best way to tackle depression[i have tried this and it worked for me] start eating ground nuts raw or heated it boosts your body and you find your self more energetic and your able to perform your routine actions or work, its the best way to tackle depression or else there is another method for this
When your depressed try this really you will find it interesting
Try counting reverse like start from hundred and make it possible to make it to 1
its a challenging task because at times you fail doing it but the thing is that it drives your depression away just give a try MARIANNA
Example of the above is [ 100,99,98,97,96,95,94......till one ]
by the time you come counting till one u will find that your depression is totally gone and your filled with energy to perform your work
Remember do not leave your diet for the sake of depression that makes you more ill

I know that chocolate and sweets in general can make us feel better if we are sad...but is a good idea with ground nuts....maybe this will help me don t smoke to much when i am depressed.....but if i ll try with ..100.99.98....i will sleep soon and i will forgot about my sadness...but with all this...i can t eat..is a big problem really.

As for me,when i feel sorrow and depress,i often eat less.I even don't want to enjoy tasty food when i sad.But sometimes after i had a simple meal i may be more comfort just because i did something for keeping fit.

i dont really have any eating problem when im sad or depressed. i sure do love eating.
when i am depressed sometimes i just go to sleep. or do something else to make my mind keep on working and not think about the thing that made me depressed. or a walk in the mall will do, i just go stroll, window shopping look at things i like, that'll take away my depression.

it depends... sometimes i will eat more and sometimes i will eat less...
i think it matters on why i'm depressed or how depressed i am.. also depends on what i'm doing. if i'm not doing anything i most likely will eat more but if i can keep myself busy i will eat less.

I can't eat at all when I'm worried, depressed or sad. My appetite goes off, and I don't think about food, neither do I feel hungry. However when I'm happy or relaxed, I won't stop eating. I'll snack the whole day through, and drink lots of coffee and coke!

sad to say i am quite the opposite, when i am sad or depressed i tend to eat more of the foods that will make me feel good like chocolates and cakes and ice creams!!!!!

Oh, you asked a good question. Whenever i am tensed, i dont know why i become crazy to eat a lot. I search here and there to find something tasty. But when i am depressed or sad, i realy cant eat anything. Even if i get a bad news after meals then i surely vomit, lol. Happy mylotting!

When i'm stressed and depressed I will have no apetite! I eat less, and since I'm not hungry, it didn't bother me how much I ate. My best friend is totally opposite and eat alot to shed away her sadness. I tried her way once, but it didn't work on me..

Yes, you right, people need chocolate, or other sweeets, this help a lot when you are depress, or when you are student and study a lot, in exam time...need to eat many sweets and fruits

AS much as I know food just contributes to why I am depressed I still sit here with my bowl of ice cream. I think it is a simple satisfaction. One that won't judge or make you feel worse. I have heard that working out makes you feel better, and I would love to try that. Some people cannot eat, I know my mom is like that when she gets depressed.

When depressed I dont feel to eat anything.Even the amount I eat reduces to 1/4th of the regular eating.

I go to nature, listen to music, read funny stories etc
on top of that I do meditation and yoga so it helps dealing with depression/sadness
food can help but usually just biscuits and milk

Hello there marianna45!
When depressed, I tend to eat less. However, there were times that I have eaten more because I was depressed. I don't know but I believe it depends on the reason for such depression. I do not really get depressed that long so whether I eat more or less is not really that important for me. Coffee is all I need to help me out get through the day.

Contrary to others who love to eat when they are depressed, my appetite is shut when I am super lonely and depressed that food for me is tasteless. I don't feel hungry when I am sad so I won't insist putting any food in my mouth, the result is weight loss and I looked like a zombie.

It all comes down to chemistry really. When you eat food you like a chemical is released in your brain which will temporarily flush out the chemical which was previously making you feel bad.

I found a lot of girls intend to eat more when they are in depressing mode. For me, I won't be able to eat, since I would lose my appetite, until I find a solution to my problem, or I'll find happiness again to help me lift up my spirit again. That's just me, I might find food not much helpful to me though.
