It depends which country a traveler lives in. I was lucky to live near airports like Gatwick and Heathrow. Further away were Stansted and Luton airports. Now I live near Bristol Airport and it mostly handles flights within Europe. Heathrow is the airport I have to go to in order to fly to long haul destinations. On the Internet I can compare airfares to get the cheapest deals. In my younger days I was a backpacker. I stayed in youth hostels and camped in my tent. I did a working holiday to Australia. I worked in Finland as a children's nanny. I studied in the Netherlands. Some countries are cheap and others are expensive. Travel guide books can give an idea of likely prices. It would be cheaper for me to fly to India and spend one month there traveling around than it would be for me to fly to Spain and spend a one month traveling there. Sometimes it is better to spend more on a flight and go far away than to spend lots on accommodation per day.
