Hi my friends,
we bought several bed time story books and other baby and kid story books in the past few months.
One book has a lot of stories which are just two minutes short. It has a lot of pictures which are attractive for our little Timmy. He watches during our reading already at the pictures.
Another book is the Little Butterfly. There is an in-built finger puppet which is in red and black colors (the first colors which a baby can recognize!). He likes it so much that we use this little book as soon as he starts crying for example. He is fascinated when we move the head of the "butterfly" with our finger.
Which kind of books have you bought for your babies/kids?
What do they like the most/what makes them silent when they cry, books or other toys?

It is very good to read stories to kids, even before they are able to understand fully. The story telling time provides opportunity to exchange love between the parent and baby, it adds to the bank of vocabulary, and instill the values without notice. The traditional fairy tales are always the best choice for little babies.
Enjoy parenting.

Hi zhuhuifen.
I agree at you, i believe reading to kids in early years is essential. It's the bonding time between parents and the baby and of course from the stories, the baby can learn the vocabularies and the values of the story. And of course, when they understand the language, they love to put themselves into the stories and this is what the imagination works.
I read my baby a chinese story yesterday, he really loves it, i changed my voices and tones according to the characters in the story. I love to see him enjoy the story and smiles all the time.
Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

hello there! when my kids were small i loved to read them stories especially before going to bed. they were also looking for such events..now that they're big, they read their own books already. i'll be having another baby soon so i guess i'l go back again reading bedtime stories soon.

Well,we don't have the practice of reading out stories to kids from a book. But we use to narrate them stories from epics and some fantasy and moral stories.Kids like to hear stories before they go to sleep. And we put off all the lights and so their concentration is not diverted and they listen well to the stories.Cheers!

i bought my kids a lot of bedtime story books, especially my eldest. but i find it she doesnt like books, and so are my next 2 kids. they are not fond of books, unlike me when i was a child i love books, and i love reading. we did tell them bedtime stories. it worked for a while but after that. we stopped using the books but instead tell on the spot made up stories , which worked well with them.
when they cry, their favorite toys or foods will stop them from crying.

well i used to read the kids books.some times when ever i get tensed a lot then i used to read all those kids books.because when we are in our childhood we are not facing any kind of problem or we don't have any kind of tension at that time.so i used to read the books when ever i am tensed and i forget all the tensions at that time

I used to read some stories to my daughter when she was younger. she really did not care for it though. I am not much of a reader or storyteller either though. She liked her mobile in her bed alot better.

I made it a point to read to my grandchildren. Then, i decided, even at the age of three and eight, that they were old enough to draw, and they do have an imagination, so i started collecting all their drawings, and writing down stories as they told me. Soon i should have enough to make them their own books for publication. They are wanting to know when i will actually get it done. And..i am still working on it.
A little hug often quietens children. Let them nestle up against you, while you are reading them a simple story. If they are fidgety, give them a stuffed toy to hold and play with while you are reading.

yes i read my kids stories i think it helps there brain development and it also gives you the separate time for each kids if you have more than one. its also helps with there speech because they will try repeating the words that you are reading. and helps them put pictures with words a lot better. which gets them ready for school later on and helps them learn faster.

I'm not sure on what of books kids like but they really like having stories read to them. I have a niece which I only see in seldom. But when I see her in her year of three, she keeps on looking at her colored fairy tale book. She wants to hear the story over and over again. Sometimes, she would tell the story herself. I observed that kids, like us, also love to see sequence of events.

I love reading books to my little guy. I also enjoyed reading them to my two older kids. They really love the special attention and it helps to make the lovers of books, and lovers of reading later on. My son likes trains and vehicles so I will often try to find books with those in them. One our favorite books to read is a book called Knuffle Bunny, it is really cute, and all three of my kids loved that book.

I usually talked to the kids in a calm and low voice while I rubbed the tums and head. When the baby cries I use a bell. It works the very much of anything I have ever tried. I don't use it any other times so I think the odd tone makes them curious. Works everytime.

With my daughter I had some books with big pictures of things so she can see and learn and what I was reading and that was when she was around a year until she was 4. But the book that she really liked was a big book that I used to read to her when she was 5 or 6 and it had 50 short stories most of them of Disney characters. She would actually have it ready before she went to bed and asked me every night to read it to her.

I don't have any children but I do have a 8 year old sister who still loves being read to even though she knows how to read really good. She loves also being read bedtime stories and when she spends the night here or me at her house she always ask to be told a bedtime story or two..She loves any kind of story but mostly about castles,princess's,dragons,unicorn,fairies..anything mythic and fantasy. She loves it.

My kids are grown into young men. I used to show them picture books initially, and then gradually shifted to fairy tales. In fact, I read more to my older son than my younger son. Time was the factor.

My children loves the Little Einstein books. Their first book is Goodnight Moon. They prefer books than toys if they are playing quitely. But on rare occasion, they don't want to do anything with books but toys that make so much noise, I wanted to wear earplugs.
Reading books to them is part of their bedtime ritual. During daytime too, I spend a few minutes in each of them to point out a good book. I wanted to borrow books from our library but I have a 2 year old that loves to tear up pages so I will do that later on.

LOL... we have sooo many books for our kids that we could open our own store. Through the years as they have gotten older their tastes have changed but in the beginning we couldn't go wrong with anything that had animals especially those touch and feel fuzzy ones.

I don't have a child, but my parents always read to me and my brother when I was younger. I truly believe reading to children at a young age will help them learn to read earlier. Just hearing people talking or telling your kid what they are playing with can be important in their development. Reading is great for very young children because they can see that you are looking at something and then speaking, and will start to learn that the words are coming from what you are looking at.
